Synopsis

Astronomer and science writer David Whitehouse takes us on a journey through the evolving cosmos as he considers humankind's place in the universe - and how our survival depends on otherworldly perspectives.
From the Earth to the depths of outer space, this inspiring book shows how human evolution has been intertwined with the workings of the cosmos from the very beginning, and what the far-distant future may hold, both for the universe and for ourselves.
Given enough time, Whitehouse contends, we must communicate with intelligent aliens whose divergent perspective will transform our understanding of the universe. First contact may even come sooner than we think. We have already transmitted signals towards promising exoplanets. If, say, Gliese 581d harbours life, the return signal could reach us in 2051.
Drawing the thread of human consciousness from the cave to the cosmos, the acclaimed author of Apollo 11: The Inside Story charts our future journey to the end of space and time and considers whether something of humanity could remain at the end of it all.

“An important new interpretation of how religious change shaped American cultural identity in the early republic.” —Journal of American History

Northern New England, a rugged landscape dotted with transient settlements, posed challenges to the traditional town church in the wake of the American Revolution. Using the methods of spatial geography, Shelby M. Balik examines how migrants adapted their understanding of religious community and spiritual space to survive in the harsh physical surroundings of the region. The notions of boundaries, place, and identity they developed became the basis for spreading New England’s deeply rooted spiritual culture, even as it opened the way to a new evangelical age.

“I strongly recommend Balik’s book for those studying colonial religious landscapes and heritages not only in New England, but in the nineteenth-century religious diasporas that swept the continent with varying mixes of European colonials and also African and Asian heritages.” —Stanley D. Brunn, University of Kentucky

“In this beautifully written and richly researched work, Shelby Balik shows how the travels of early nineteenth century Methodists, Universalists and freewill Baptist itinerant missionaries and congregations recreated the geography of New England Protestantism, setting in motion (literally) a tension between religious rootedness and religious uprootedness, center and periphery, that endures to today. Early American religious history in Balik’s retelling of it is one of bodies in constant movement in and out and around the city on the hill. The delight Balik takes in maps and journeys is infectious. This is a wonderful addition to American religious historiography.” —Robert Orsi, Northwestern University

This is an audio journey through a collection of original Nature photography paired with original poetry & prose. Within you'll find lyrical audio descriptions of photos spanning the landscapes of my home state of Vermont, as well as a curated selection of photos from Virginia. This art is paired with whimsical & impactful poetry in themes of ecology, fantasy, social justice (BIPOC, LBGTQIA+ & Women's Rights, aging & disability), literature, conservation, history, family trauma, healing, & never forgetting pure Fascination with the Wonders of the Universe. This work is intended to create access to the wonders & benefits of Nature to those who may have mobility issues, disabilities (including visual impairment), or who otherwise lack access to the healing power of Nature due to financial hardship; racial, social, or fat-biased exclusion; or other circumstances.Art, Science, Magic, Nature, Truth, Justice, Love, & Creativity: through Astrobridge Artistry, I aim to Communicate the Magic & Wonder of Nature, hoping to make the beauty & healing powers of the natural world accessible & inviting to all. As someone with multiple disabilities & limited mobility myself, I pride myself on taking photos of, & being inspired by, beautiful & whimsical scenes in natural places that are easily accessible. Whether I'm on a dirt road 2 steps from my car door, on an accessible nature trail, or even right on my own balcony in Montpelier, VT in my Magic Garden in the Sky, illustrating that the beauty of Nature can be more accessible than you think, & that you don't need to have the ability to climb a rocky mountain trail to witness the majesty of Nature, is one of my main missions. It is important to me to share my photos & writing with a world with ever diminishing access to the truth & natural surroundings.2 photos are credited to my Mother, Diana Whittington (the Rainbow's Daughter & There & Back Again), & another is in Public Domain; the remainder of the photos were taken by me.

In 1969 the US Air Force issued a statement that read‚ "No UFO reported, investigated, and evaluated by the Air Force was ever an indication of threat to our national security." This statement has been proven untrue by the testimony of many military officers and airmen and documentation of incidents involving UFOs and nuclear weapons, testimonies of which the US Air Force was fully aware. UAPs and the Nuclear Puzzle details many of these testimonies, some for the first time.As partial justification for its position, the Air Force cites a University of Colorado study that was contracted and paid for by federal funds. UAPs and the Nuclear Puzzle reveals how this study was actually just another part of the plan to cover up the reality of the UFO phenomenon. This book reveals evidence that the investigators for the Colorado study knew about the UFO-related missile shutdown incidents but did not investigate them or include them in their final report. As stated by Robert Salas: "To date, many former or retired US Air Force personnel—once trusted to operate or guard weapons of mass destruction—have come forward and revealed ongoing UFO surveillance of, and occasional interference with, our nuclear weapons. The entire body of these factual accounts alters the historical perspective on the nuclear arms race."
