Beschreibung

David Trinidad's poetry has a wide following. He is such a loved figure in the poetry world that his works tend to outsell those of other poets. In the past his books have gotten well reviewed and are often later course adopted. The work is deeply personal, brilliantly crafted, postmodern, moving and unrelenting in a witty and soulful way.Despite the fact that Trinidad is a modest and understated reader of his own work his readings are always sold out. The crowds are diverse --- in addition to Trinidad groupies there are always young poets and students of poetry and students in areas such as film, gay studies, semiotics and cultural studies.Trinidad's fans includes scholars of poetry. He has written movingly about Sylvia Plath, Ann Sexton and Tim Dlugos. Even some of today's most established poets such as John Koethe and Mark Strand are keen followers of his work.Trinidad's work has even been reviewed outside the USA. The review of Phoebe 2002 in the Toronto Globe and Mail began, "I want to say right off that I think Phoebe 2002 is a brilliant book.""Utterly deadpan and astonishingly fine" is how PW once described David Trinidad's work.

Poetic meditations on solitude by acclaimed author May SartonThis collection borrows its title from Sir Walter Raleigh, who wrote, “Love is a durable fire / In the mind ever burning.” It is a fitting sentiment for a collection on solitude, wherein the author finds herself full of emotion even in seclusion. The first poem, “Gestalt at Sixty,” finds the author reflecting on the joy and loneliness of being solitary. A Durable Fire is a transformative work by a masterful poet.

Deep Roots, Dark Forests explores the unseen, the unnoticed, and the uncared for in our lives. It's the simple everyday things that are the most fascinating—the flowers, the forest, the decaying architecture in an old southern town. It's the silent, quick blooms of an azalea, the big, pure magnolia blossoms, and the wide roots of a live oak that capture the attention here.
And there's also the fictitious melodies that whisper while amongst the trees or sipping morning coffee that makes their way into the collection. This is a record of the quiet moments and the loud ones, times when we feel haunted and at peace, and all the in-between. This isn't a work of fiction or of fact. These poems along with the photography embody a mix of truth and untruth—stories told from a slant.

Cricket. A Sport In Verse. As the Sun lengthens its days to Summer so a sport begins to dominate the thoughts and actions of many people. This game so encapsulated of village greens, of evening song, of Middle England is now spread far across the world. From the marathon of a 5 day test to the razzle dazzle excitement of 20 Twenty it captures many things; the comforting sound of willow on leather, the slow raised hand of an umpire, the arcane rules and frequent breaks for tea and other necessities sill conjure up the image of a bygone world even though its own is now global TV, night matches and Hawk Eye cameras. In this volume poets throughout the ages share the agony, the ecstasy and share the pleasure of being part of something very different, very special. These poems are read for you by Tim Graham, Richard Mitchley and Ghizela Rowe. Our poems are- Cricket – A Sport In Verse; Cricket At Harrow - Lord Byron; Dedicated To The Famous Notts & Surrey Elevens - Albert Craig; Dad On The Test - CJ Dennis; Cricket - JS Fletcher; Extract from A Shopshire Lad - AE Houseman; Sonnet - William Wordsworth; Ballade Of Cricket - A Lang; Choosing An All England XI In 1896 – Anonymous; The Old Stumper Recites A Piece Of His Own Composing - JS Fletcher; Around The Level Dale - William Perfect; Beirut Wedding Poem - Tim Graham; Lines On A Cricket Match - GK Chesterton; At Lords - F Thompson; Cricket - Herbert E Clarke; Mantra Of The Beast - Tim Graham; A Sixer - GF Wilson; The Vital Question - FAJ Godfrey; That Red Leather Ball - Daniel Sheehan; The Innings - RW Raper; A Cricket Bowler - E C Lefroy; The Church Cricketent - Norman Gale; The Stout Cricketer - R Whieldon Baddeley; The Cricket Club Of Red Nose Flat - J Hickory Wood; The Cricket Match - AM Robertson; The Day Before The Weald - Tim Graham; If Every - EV Lucas; Rhyme O'Bat O My Syk-Em - Francis Thompson; Arma Virumque - Alfred Cochrane; XI Un-Shackled Melodies - Tim Graham; The Deserted Parks - Lewis Carroll; Vitai Lampada - Henry Newbolt; Two Extracts From The Princess - Alfred Lord Tennyson; Song - Alfred Austin; A Vacant Place At The Oval - Albert Craig

    Siarad - Poetry and Prose

Award-winning writer and celebrated spoken-word performer Caroline Reid plumbs the depths of intimate human relationships in this bold and energetic collection of poetry and stories.
Siarad, a Welsh word meaning to talk or speak, is a 34-track audiobook that pushes the limits of the form. The work pulses with images of stars and stray dogs, highways with no horizon and mothers with fading memories. It’s a book of social and cultural commentary with poems about life and death and love. There are betrayal stories, surreal stories and lush stories that luxuriate in language, all with a consistent element of surprise.
Reid’s voice weaves in and out of an unconventional soundscape designed and produced by Jeffrey Zhang. The flow packs a punch. It’s an emotional roller coaster, which will make you laugh out loud and cry in the one sitting, and have you wanting to listen to it all over again.
     Critic Reviews:
“Psychedelic. Startling. Alive. This book takes you to places you never imagined you’d go, and some places you’ve already been, but thought you were alone when you were there. Caroline Reid is a fellow traveller in a chaotic world. She tells a woman’s story, but it is the story of us all.” (Donna Ward, She I Dare Not Name: A Spinster’s Meditations on Life)
“The singing energy of Welsh literature is here grafted onto Australian colloquial informality and laid-back irony. The poems, prose poems and flash fictions in this collection demand to be read aloud to get the full effect.” (Kerryn Goldsworthy, Sydney Morning Herald)
“A great introduction to poetry and flash fiction for the uninitiated. Reid’s writing is satisfyingly complex, without being obscure, and relatable without being simplistic.”
    (Tracey Korsten, Glam Adelaide)

William Collins Books and Decca Records are proud to present ARGO Classics, a historic catalogue of classic prose and verse read by some of the world’s most renowned voices. Originally released as vinyl records, these expertly remastered stories are now available to download for the first time.
‘In thee hath neither sting, knot, nor confine, For thou art all, and all things else are thine.’
Two of Shakespeare’s most revered and elegiac poems.
In The Phoenix and the Turtle, the mythical phoenix consumes itself in fire, from the ashes of which another phoenix is born. In Shakespeare's poem, the phoenix is female and the turtle (that is, a turtledove) is male.
In A Lover’s Complaint, originally published with the sonnets, a young woman is overheard lamenting her betrayal by a heartless seducer.
All of the Shakespeare plays within the ARGO Classics catalogue are performed by the Marlowe Dramatic Society and Professional Players. The Marlowe was founded in 1907 with a mission to focus on effective delivery of verse, respect the integrity of texts, and rescue neglected plays by Shakespeare’s contemporaries and the less performed plays of Shakespeare himself. The Marlowe has performed annually at Cambridge Arts Theatre since its opening in 1936 and continues to produce some of the finest actors of their generations.
Thurston Dart, Professor of Music at London University and a Fellow of Jesus College Cambridge, directed the music for this production.
The full cast includes: Joan Hart and William Squire.
This top-notch production, short in length but rich in content, brings the best of European theatre to the comfort of your home. The performing prowess of the Marlowe Dramatic Society and Professional Players is evident, making each verse resonate with emotion.
For fans of Richard Parsons (GCSE English Shakespeare Text Guide), and Arthur Miller (Incident at Vichy).
