Synopsis

Grover is a man of small routines, not big responsibilities. When his sister asks him to babysit her two kids, Alex and Jennifer, he reluctantly agrees. It’s just for one night after all. But nothing could have prepared him for what comes next.

In the wake of sudden tragedy, Grover finds himself unexpectedly thrust into the role of guardian. Convinced the children would be better off with their grandmother, he decides to take them on a cross-country road trip to ease them into the idea of their new life.

The roadside attractions aren’t the only big things they encounter on their journey. The trio meet larger-than-life new friends and find themselves embroiled in a media storm as their simple road trip quickly becomes something much bigger. Along the way Grover, Alex and Jennifer begin to confront their grief and fears, and they form an unconventional, yet powerful bond. As past wounds resurface, Grover must face the ghosts he’s long avoided and decide what kind of future he wants - and what kind of future he deserves.

Full of humour, pop culture and heart, BIG THINGS is a story of second chances and family, set against the stunning backdrop of Australia.

""Creep is everything I want from a novel—it’s obsessive, it’s rapturous, it spirals into the most masochistic corners of the mind. A perfectly twisted debut.""—Anna Dorn, author of Perfume & Pain
""A chilling book by an exciting new voice.""—Vogue (UK)
From a blistering new voice in dark literary fiction, an unsettling portrait of loneliness, obsession, and identity which asks: if a stranger was left alone in your house, how well could they truly get to know you—enough to fall in love with you?
Alice and Tom are made for each other. Deeply connected, they share a flat in London, go to galleries together, enjoy the same books and wine. They even share a toothbrush. It’s all picture perfect.
Except Alice and Tom have never met.
Alice has been cleaning Tom’s apartment every Wednesday for a year. With every smudge wiped from his coffee cup, every multivitamin counted in the jar, Alice spirals deeper into infatuation, imagining a love so powerful it might erase a lifetime of self-hatred and loneliness.
But as Alice prepares for the moment when she and Tom will finally meet face-to-face, she discovers that love might not be the cure she thought it was. Instead, the line between fantasy and reality becomes ever more blurred, shattering everything Alice thought she knew.
Told in Alice’s compelling, deliciously acidic voice, Creep is a literary study of unreliability and unlikability. Exploring alienation, class, and race, it's a skilled debut with resonance in the way that we view women, mental health, and the lost in society.A great read for spooky-season nightsA perfect addition to any Halloween reading list

There is something about the number 3.

The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two.

Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Whatever history and culture says WE think 3, a hat-trick of stories, is a great number to explore themes and literary avenues that classic authors were so adept at creating.

A new collection from David Sedaris is cause for jubilation. His recent move to Paris has inspired hilarious pieces, including Me Talk Pretty One Day, about his attempts to learn French. His family is another inspiration. You Cant Kill the Rooster is a portrait of his brother who talks incessant hip-hop slang to his bewildered father. And no one hones a finer fury in response to such modern annoyances as restaurant meals presented in ludicrous towers and cashiers with 6-inch fingernails. Compared by The New Yorker to Twain and Hawthorne, Sedaris has become one of our best-loved authors. Sedaris is an amazing reader whose appearances draw hundreds, and his performancesincluding a jaw-dropping impression of Billie Holiday singing I wish I were an Oscar Meyer weinerare unforgettable. Sedariss essays on living in Paris are some of the funniest hes ever written. At last, someone even meaner than the French! The sort of blithely sophisticated, loopy humour that might have resulted if Dorothy Parker and James Thurber had had a love child. This program is read by the author. The debut poetry collection from Lyndsay Rush (aka @maryoliversdrunkcousin) is a humorous and joyful celebration of big feelings, tender truths, and hard-won wisdom, for fans of Maggie Smith, Kate Baer, and Kate Kennedy. At long last, a book of poetry for people who didn’t even know they liked poetry. And they’re in good company: author Lyndsay Rush didn’t know she liked it either. That is, until she embarked on an internet experiment under the Instagram username @MaryOliversDrunkCousin that turned into a body of work that struck a chord with women across the country; thanks to her signature wordplay, witticisms, and—against all odds—wisdom. With titles like "Shedonism", "Someone to Eat Chips With", "It’s Called Maximalism, Babe", and "Breaking News: Local Woman Gets Out of Bed", Rush’s debut collection of poetry uses humor to grapple with the female experience—from questioning whether or not to have children, to roasting the patriarchy, to challenging what it means to "age gracefully"—and each piece delivers gut-punching truths alongside gratifying punchlines. Readers walk away from Lyndsay’s work feeling seen, celebrated, and wholly convinced that joy is an urgent, worthwhile pursuit. With over 140 convention-bending poems—most of which are never-before-seen—this book is quite literally A Bit Much.A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin’s Press.
