Synopsis

Who were the Romans and how did this small tribe come to dominate Italy before establishing the largest empire the world has ever seen? Why were the Romans such brilliant innovators, responsible for inventions including newspapers, concrete, surgeon's tools and even an efficient postal system? What made their army invincible and their buildings so remarkable? And why, eventually, did the whole empire come crashing down?
David Long explains what life was actually like for ordinary Romans as well as their famous emperors, while also looking at the lingering influence of Roman civilisation throughout the world.

"Hey Diddle Diddle, the Cat and the Fiddle. The cow jumped over the moon! The little dog laughed to see such sport and the dish ran off with the spoon." Perhaps you think this verse is all nonsense, and that the things it mentions could never have happened; but they did happen, as you will understand when Frank Baum has explained them all to you clearly.
Little Bobby was the only son of a small farmer who lived out of town upon a country road. Bobby's mother looked after the house and Bobby's father took care of the farm, and Bobby himself, who was not very big, helped them both as much as he was able.
It was lonely upon the farm, especially when his father and mother were both busy at work, but the boy had one way to amuse himself that served to pass many an hour when he would not otherwise have known what to do. He was very fond of music, and his father one day brought him from the town a small fiddle, or violin, which he soon learned to play upon. I don't suppose he was a very fine musician, but the tunes he played pleased himself, as well as his father and mother, and Bobby's fiddle soon became his constant companion. To find out how the cow and the cat and the moon became involved, you will need to listen to this delightful talk and be much the wiser.

Randolph Caldecott is best known as the namesake of the award that honors picture book illustrations, and in this inventive biography, leading children's literature scholar Leonard Marcus examines the man behind the medal. In an era when the steam engine fueled an industrial revolution and train travel exploded people's experience of space and time, Caldecott was inspired by his surroundings to capture action, movement, and speed in a way that had never before been seen in children's picture books. Thoroughly researched and featuring extensive archival material and a treasure trove of previously unpublished drawings, including some from Caldecott's very last sketchbook, Leonard Marcus's luminous biography shows why Caldecott was indeed the father of the modern picture book and how his influence lives on in the books we love today.

With all this tension in the background, Aidan becomes fixated on finding the mysterious Lost Cup which was allegedly hidden 100 years ago during the Irish Civil War. Why will no one talk to him about it? Will a school trip to the GAA museum in Croke Park shed any light on this mystery? How is the lost cup linked to rivalries between Droichead Beag GAA and Gorman GAA?
Can Aoife and Aidan solve this mystery, reunite their gang of friends and return to having fun on the football field?
