Synopsis

David Hume's "The History of England" is a monumental six-volume work that chronicles the political, social, and cultural evolution of England from ancient times to the Glorious Revolution of 1688. Addressing themes of governance, morality, and human nature, Hume employs a narrative style rich in detail and eloquence, seamlessly blending empirical analysis with philosophical insight. His historical approach, grounded in skepticism and objectivity, reflects the Enlightenment's ideals, offering perspectives that challenge prevailing narratives and inviting readers to ponder the complexities of progress and authority. David Hume, a prominent philosopher and historian of the Enlightenment, was profoundly influenced by both the intellectual currents of his time and his own experiences in a rapidly changing political landscape. His engagement with the conflicts of his era, especially the tension between monarchy and parliamentary power, informs his critical examination of historical events. Hume's philosophical writings, including his skepticism of reason and emphasis on human behavior, shape his historical narrative, providing a nuanced understanding of the motivations behind historical developments. This comprehensive historical account is essential for anyone seeking to grasp the intricacies of England's past. Hume's analytical rigor and literary grace not only illuminate historical trajectories but also stimulate thoughtful engagement with the ideas of power, morality, and identity. As such, "The History of England" is a timeless resource for scholars, students, and history enthusiasts alike.

They were part of the Baby Boomer vanguard, three boys thrown together in a 1950s Southern California subdivision looking like most other boys of that era. Under coonskin hats they ran free all summer long inventing their own games and endless challenges, fought imaginary Indians and pirates in a nearby orange grove, and on occasion battled a neighborhood bully or two. Their greatest enemy, however, was an infectious disease called polio – a paralyzing scourge that maimed and too-often killed little kids.
This is a coming-of-age tale based on actual events and the experiences of real people. Told chiefly through the eyes of a child, at times it will warm your soul as well as, perhaps, break your heart. Then, too, there will be plenty of twists and turns that will leave you laughing out loud.
So, let us journey now back to that long-ago time and see what it was really like – with hula hoops, bouffant hair and flat tops with wings; “American Bandstand,” “Ozzie and Harriet” and “Davy Crockett” on TV; Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Elvis electrifying the up-and-coming Boomer generation – and a nation as terrified by the threat of nuclear war with the Russians as by a crippling and deadly microscopic bug.

In his dancing position, Shiva is known as Nataraja, the King of dancers, and is one of the most beautiful forms of Lord Shiva. The upper right hand of Shiva, as Nataraja, holds the damaru drum. It shows nothing, but it represents universal development. Meanwhile, the lower right-hand holds a flame of destruction. There are many stories about Shiva's appearance. There is a third eye between Lord Shiva's eyebrows on his forehead as an example. It represents wisdom or inner vision. The other two eyes represent love and justice. Shiva views everything with the proportions of love, justice, and inner knowledge; thus, he is neither too harsh nor lenient. Shiva's three eyes also symbolize the sun, moon, and fire, how the universe is illuminated. Shiva's wife, Parvati, covered Shiva's eyes with her hands one day, and the entire world was enveloped in darkness. That is how Shiva got his third eye. Shiva ordered the third eye to manifest, producing light, heat, and fire.

By embracing Charity, Stewardship, and Willingness to Serve, we become agents of change, focused on compassion, selflessness, and responsibility. These virtues not only strengthen communities but also foster personal fulfillment through service.
Charity is the cornerstone of giving. This section delves into the transformative power of generosity and the importance of helping others without expecting anything in return. Charity is about recognizing the needs of others and responding with kindness, whether through time, resources, or love. It is the act of giving that elevates the giver and creates lasting impacts in the lives of those in need.
Stewardship involves responsibly managing the resources we have been entrusted with—whether they are financial, environmental, or personal. This part emphasizes the importance of taking care of the world around us, protecting what we’ve been given, and using our talents to benefit others. Stewardship is about mindful, responsible action that ensures the well-being of both current and future generations.
Willingness to Serve is a key element of living a life dedicated to others. This section highlights the value of choosing to serve without hesitation, embracing opportunities to make a difference wherever possible. Whether in everyday situations or through larger acts of service, a willingness to serve cultivates humility, gratitude, and compassion.

In The Future Is Disabled, Leah Laksmi Piepzna-Samarasinha asks some provocative questions: What if, in the near future, the majority of people will be disabled—and what if that's not a bad thing? And what if disability justice and disabled wisdom are crucial to creating a future in which it's possible to survive fascism, climate change, and pandemics and to bring about liberation?

Building on the work of her game changing book Care Work: Dreaming Disability Justice, Piepzna-Samarasinha writes about disability justice at the end of the world, documenting the many ways disabled people kept and are keeping each other—and the rest of the world—alive during Trump, fascism, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Other subjects include crip interdependence, care, and mutual aid in real life, disabled community building, and disabled art practice as survival and joy.

Written over the course of two years of disabled isolation during the pandemic, this is a book of love letters to other disabled QTBIPOC (and those concerned about disability justice, the care crisis, and surviving the apocalypse); honor songs for kin who are gone; recipes for survival; questions and real talk about care, organizing, disabled families, and kin networks and communities; and wild brown disabled femme joy in the face of death.
