Synopsis

An irrepressible fraudster known only as the Maniac is brought into Police Headquarters just as the officers are preparing for a judicial review of the recent 'accidental' death of a suspect in custody.
Outwitting his captors, the Maniac dupes them into performing a farcical recreation of the incident, exposing the absurd corruption and terrifying idiocy at the heart of the system.
Dario Fo and Franca Rame's riotous satire has been widely performed around the world since its premiere in 1970. Tom Basden's acclaimed adaptation was first performed at Sheffield Theatres in 2022, directed by Daniel Raggett, and starring Daniel Rigby as the Maniac.
The production transferred to the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre in 2023, before moving to the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London's West End.
'An Italian classic reborn as an unmissable police satire' - Metro

'A glorious comedy that leaps off the stage' - The Times
'A riotous satirical farce brought bang up to date… Tom Basden's full-blooded adaptation [is] a furious but funny broadside against police malpractice… supremely, dazzlingly funny' - Guardian
'A glorious romp from the super-talented Tom Basden' - Observer

It’s 2016, and Dalton Edwards is tasked with fitting in with the locals in Briarton, Ohio. There’s something going on in this rural, sleepy county of only 28,000 people, and his higher-ups want Dalton to uncover it. Easier said than done!
Dalton immediately discovers the community is tight-knit, and not easily infiltrated. His boss says it’s a pot-growing operation, but Dalton thinks it’s much bigger than that. Before his assignment is over, eight family members are murdered under circumstances that Dalton knows have nothing to do with a hydroponic weed operation or a custody dispute.
As the mass murder makes international news, Dalton is determined to find the murderer (or murderers) and expose the guilty to seek justice for the slain. It won’t be easy, and in the end, one more local will perish. Dalton will not rest until those responsible are held accountable.
*This novel is fictional, but based on true events that happened in Pike County, Ohio, in April of 2016. The names and locations have been fictionalized, and the conclusions contained in this work of fiction are purely a product of the author's imagination.

    Keeping Count

Keeping Count, M. Travis Lane’s 18th collection of poetry, begins in the poet’s favourite terrain: short, condensed lyric that focuses on the natural world. “But pull a thread: music turns” Lane writes, and the book progressively defamiliarizes the reader, moving from ecopoetry to a longer poetry of interiority in the second section, concluding with a final section that focuses on issues of mortality. As George Elliott Clarke has written so aptly, “If you have not read Lane before, prepare to travel: Like T.S. Eliot, she wants you to have a transporting experience in your imagination. If you have read Lane before, prepare for fresh astonishment. She is Homeric breadth and Sapphic brevity."
