    Love Queenie - Merle Oberon...

Merle Oberon made history when she was announced as a nominee for the Best Actress Oscar in 1936. Her nomination marked the first time the Academy recognized a performer of color. Oberon, born to a South Asian mother and white father, broke through a racial barrier—but no one knew it. Oberon was "passing" for white.

In the first biography of Oberon in more than forty years, Mayukh Sen draws on family interviews and untapped archival material to capture the life of an oft-forgotten talent. Born into poverty, Queenie Thompson dreamt of big-screen stardom. By sheer force of will, she immigrated to London in her teens and met film mogul Alexander Korda, who christened her "Merle Oberon." Her new identity was her ticket into Hollywood. When she was in her twenties, Oberon dazzled as Cathy in Wuthering Heights opposite Laurence Olivier. Against the backdrop of Hollywood's racially exclusionary Golden Age and the United States's hostile immigration policy towards South Asians in the twentieth century, Oberon rose to the highest echelons of the film-world elite.

Tracing Oberon's story from her Indian roots to her final days surrounded by wealth and glamor, Sen questions the demands placed on stars in life and death. His compassionate, compelling chronicle illuminates troubling truths on race, gender, and power that still resonate today.

In Heavyweight, Jordana Moore Saggese examines images of Black heavyweight boxers to map the visual terrain of racist ideology in the United States, paying particular attention to the intersecting discourses of Blackness, masculinity, and sport. Looking closely at the "shadow archive" of portrayals across fine art, vernacular imagery, and public media at the turn of the twentieth century, she demonstrates how the images of boxers reveal the racist stereotypes implicit in them, many of which continue to structure ideas of Black men today. With a focus on both anonymous fighters and notorious champions, including Jack Johnson, Saggese contends that popular images of these men provided white spectators a way to render themselves experts on Blackness and Black masculinity. These images became the blueprint for white conceptions of the Black male body—existing between fear and fantasy, simultaneously an object of desire and an instrument of violence. Reframing boxing as yet another way whiteness establishes the violent mythology of its supremacy, Saggese highlights the role of imagery in normalizing a culture of anti-Blackness.

Spotify’s algorithm is kind of a black box. Your song releases, you do some marketing and then it gets thrown onto some algorithmic playlists, sometimes. To most artists it may as well be completely random, but behind the scenes there is of course some very particular code executing purposefully written algorithms. Unfortunately we have no idea what this algorithm actually is.
This book represents my entire understanding of how the Spotify algorithm works and how i've been able to get almost every song i've released in the past 3 years onto Discovery Weekly. Since I don't have any insider knowledge this understanding is based on experience, trial and error, research and a little bit of science.
Andrew Southworth is a music artist with over 10 million streams on his own music. Through his YouTube channel and company Genera Studios he has helped other artists generate over 100 million streams on their music.

These texts, attributed to viziers Ptahhotep and Ke'gemni respectively, provide invaluable guidance on navigating the complexities of life with integrity, wisdom, and virtue. The teachings encompass a wide range of topics, including the importance of humility, the pursuit of knowledge, the value of integrity in leadership, and the significance of familial and societal bonds. Each instruction serves as a timeless reminder of the universal principles that underpin a flourishing and harmonious life."The Instruction of Ptahhotep" is particularly renowned for its emphasis on wisdom acquired through experience and humility, as Ptahhotep imparts his knowledge to his son in a spirit of paternal care and guidance. Meanwhile, "The Instruction of Ke'gemni" similarly offers invaluable lessons on ethical conduct and leadership, drawing from the experiences and wisdom of another esteemed vizier of ancient Egypt. Together, these texts provide a comprehensive ethical framework for individuals seeking to lead a virtuous and meaningful life, offering practical guidance that remains relevant and inspiring across cultures and millennia. As readers delve into these ancient teachings, they are transported back in time to a civilization that valued wisdom, integrity, and moral excellence above all else. Whether pondering the intricacies of personal relationships, reflecting on the responsibilities of leadership, or contemplating the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, readers will find in these ancient teachings a source of timeless wisdom and guidance that continues to illuminate the path toward a life of virtue and fulfillment.
