“Clever and entertaining, you’ll love this charming Golden Age mystery series. And the fashion is to die for!” - Molly C. Quinn, actress, Castle
    A poltergeist guilty of murder?
Ginger Gold receives a letter from her sister-in-law, Felicia, requesting Ginger come straightaway to her late husband's family home, Bray Manor. Dowager Lady Gold, Ginger's nervous grandmother through marriage, believes the old manor is haunted.
Ginger doesn't believe in ghosts, but is haunted nevertheless by memories of her husband and the lure of his gravesite she just can't bring herself to visit.
In order to keep Bray Manor afloat financially, Felicia and Ambrosia have opened the estate to the public for club meetings and special events. Knitters, stamp collectors and gardeners converge weekly--targets for the poltergeist that seems to find amusement in hiding small things from their owners.
Bray Manor hosts a dance to raise money for maimed soldiers who struggle with peacetime after the Great War. Felicia invites her flapper friends and her new beau, Captain Smithwick, a man Ginger has met before and definitely doesn't like.
When the dance ends with the discovery of a body, Ambrosia is certain the poltergeist is to blame, but Ginger is quite sure the murderer is made of flesh and blood.

DEKOK AND THE KISS OF DEATH is a book in the series The Amsterdam Detective by Dutch bestselling author Baantjer. This series, featuring inspector DeKok, is set in Amsterdam, around the Warmoes Street police station.

When Roxanne Degenaar is found murdered, inspector DeKok is stumped. Who would have reason to kill Roxanne, well-known and loved in Amsterdam as she was? The lady was a politician with a seat on the city council, she volunteered for the Food Bank, and she was an active member of the community in her neighbourhood. As a city councillor, she represented the Great Amsterdam party, or 'Gram' as it was better known – a pet name both she and the party shared.

DeKok's investigation soon focusses on Matthias, Roxanne's husband, who is a very successful entrepreneur. His rise from rags to riches was nothing short of meteoric, but he turns out to be well-connected in Amsterdam's criminal underworld. Matthias' chain of tanning parlours are perfect for money laundering. Was it her own political wheeling and dealing that led to her death? Or did she fall victim to her husband's secret life…?

    The Thing On The Roof

The Thing on the Roof, written by Robert E. Howard in 1932, is a chilling tale that masterfully blends elements of Lovecraftian cosmic horror with Howard’s signature sense of adventure and danger. First published in Weird Tales in 1932, this story exemplifies Howard’s ability to craft narratives that delve into forbidden knowledge, ancient relics, and the inevitable consequences of tampering with forces beyond human comprehension. The story follows the misadventures of an unnamed narrator, an antiquarian who recounts the fate of a colleague, Tussmann, after he unearths a mysterious and ominous artifact: the Black Book. Fueled by greed and intellectual hubris, Tussmann uses the text to locate an ancient temple in Central America, unaware of the terrible entity that slumbers there. The story builds tension as Tussmann’s quest for knowledge turns into a nightmare, culminating in an encounter with an unspeakable being that defies logic and sanity. The Thing on the Roof showcases Howard’s skill at fusing his love of archaeology, mythology, and horror into a fast-paced, atmospheric tale. The influence of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos is evident, with the story’s emphasis on ancient, malevolent forces and the dire consequences of uncovering them. Yet, Howard’s voice remains distinct, adding a visceral energy and sense of immediacy to the unfolding terror. This story invites readers to consider the dangers of arrogance and unchecked curiosity, themes that resonate deeply in the realm of weird fiction. As you journey into the shadowy world of The Thing on the Roof, prepare for an adventure that combines the allure of discovery with the chilling reminder that some mysteries are best left undisturbed.
