Synopsis

The perfect spy needs the perfect cover story. Love wasn't part of the plan. 
 
Lady Alexis knows only the pampered life of a debutant. That soon changes when she is forced to run away. Accidentally boarding the wrong ship, she is stranded in the French smuggling port of Gravelines. She naively stows away in the wagons of a merchant bound for Paris. But England is at war with France, Napoleon rages on the continent, and Alexis finds herself facing even deadlier peril. 
 
Aran Forsythe is an English spy, playing the decadent rake in Paris. When he finds Alexis in his cargo, he reluctantly becomes her protector. But the notorious spymaster Joseph Fouche has him under surveillance, and his pretense in Paris has begun to crumble. 
 
To avoid Fouche's clutches, Alexis must play the part of Aran's mistress. The lines between reality and the role of lovers begin to blur, and their passion ignites. When the maniacal General de Sole decides he must have Alexis, and nothing, even murder, will stand in his way, the game becomes doubly dangerous.
