Summary

In "The Ward of Tecumseh," Crittenden Marriott crafts a historical narrative that intricately intertwines personal and collective histories amidst the backdrop of early 19th-century North America. The novel follows its protagonist, a young ward of the renowned Shawnee leader Tecumseh, exploring themes of identity, loyalty, and cultural conflict. Marriott employs a rich, evocative prose style that mirrors the oral traditions of Native American storytelling, immersing the reader in the tumultuous landscape of pre-colonial America and the tensions leading to the War of 1812. This work finds its place in a broader literary context that interrogates colonial narratives and seeks to represent underrepresented voices in history, positioning itself as a significant contribution to both American literature and Indigenous studies. Crittenden Marriott, a scholar in American history with a particular focus on Indigenous relations, draws deeply from his research and understanding of Native American cultures, providing authenticity to the narrative. His passion for preserving these often-overlooked stories is evident throughout the text, illuminating both the complexities of interpersonal relationships and the majestic, and at times tragic, realities of Native life during pivotal historical moments. Readers seeking a nuanced and deeply engaging portrayal of Native American history will find "The Ward of Tecumseh" an essential addition to their literary collection. Marriott'Äôs compelling narrative not only enlightens but invites reflection on the themes of coexistence and conflict, making it a recommendable read for anyone interested in the rich tapestry of America's past.

A complete refreshment and uplift of energy: a hilarious, beguiling first novel for the head and the heart.Sylvie is happy only when she’s in therapy. This is because Sylvie is in love with her therapist; she thinks about her every second they’re not together (roughly 167 hours and 10 minutes per week). In that room, Sylvie is able to talk about everything: the false hope promised by eighties music; what a dog’s inner life is really like and how sad, she, Sylvie is, outside that room. She’s aware she has an obsession, but whether it’s some flavor of erotic transference or a lost person’s need to connect, Sylvie isn’t sure.Outside therapy Sylvie has what she considers to be a small life: a job as a veterinary nurse, companionship from her tattoo artist friend via text, and seaside walks with her brain-damaged dog, Curtains. But maybe therapy is making a difference, inviting her to imagine possibilities—possibilities that include a new friend she meets on the beach. When the therapist starts to prepare Sylvie for the terrible fact that all treatment has to come to an end, Sylvie can’t stop herself from imagining sleeping in her car parked outside the therapist’s house. That won’t work. She has to be brave. Be brave, Sylvie! We love you.In this wonderful, hilarious, stunning debut, Adelaide Faith captures the vulnerability, difficulty and joy of personhood, of being a person, of being alive.A Macmillan Audio production from Farrar, Straus and Giroux.

A Marriage of Necessity - Jasper and Avalon
    I owe my mother everything.
Jasper, the youngest Prince from Lowenthorp, had one driving need - to get away from the castle. After being abducted, abused, and having lost an eye, Jasper believed his only chance of keeping his Mother safe was to be as far away from her as possible. Which was why, when his Mother suggested a Marriage Contract, Jasper agreed. He didn't care who he married, so long as he could keep his Mother safe.
I can’t believe I’ve just agreed to marry a man I haven’t met. Maybe there was something in those mushrooms.
Avalon, Crown Prince of Cijan, never wanted to marry. He'd lost his fiancé many years before and determined a life filled with duty and travel was enough. Until he heard Jasper's story. Deciding he could be a friend to the young prince, if nothing else, marrying Jasper would at least put a stop to the endless Marriage Contract suggestions his father had been dealing with.
A marriage of necessity could work for them both...
Magic, whales, and ships that pass in the night. Somehow Avalon and Jasper are drawn together and when Jasper jumps overboard... The heart knows what the heart wants.
As an author I rarely include trigger warnings - I rarely write stories that include anything triggering. However for readers sensitive to discussions of abuse, there are two paragraphs in the book where this is alluded to. While I promise this story has a very sweet and happy ending, if this is a trigger for you, then this might not be the story for you.

In the isolated villages of Meirion, Wales, people vanish without a trace, leaving a quiet countryside gripped by fear. A series of unexplainable deaths occur under horrifying and impossible circumstances—drowned in shallow marshes, shattered on jagged cliffs, slaughtered on empty roads. The press goes silent and fear spreads like wildfire. Is there a monstrous killer lurking in the shadows, or is something far more sinister at work?
As a physician investigates the shocking truth about the mystifying deaths and tragedies, he uncovers a terror beyond human comprehension—a force that defies logic, nature, and even the limits of reality itself.
A masterpiece of suspense and the supernatural, The Terror blends the supernatural, fantasy and horror fiction into a story that would influence future writing in the horror genre for decades.

When our sun suddenly goes supernova, scorching the Earth and driving humanity to the brink of extinction, the only hope for surviving "The Burning" seems to be the totalitarian Under-Law Nations, or ULN, which forces its citizens into lifelong servitude for the slim chance at a seat on their Lifeboats, generational ships launched annually toward Alpha, the nearest star with potentially habitable worlds.
But Quinn Sandlin, founder of the rogue faction Project Atlas, has a different idea: bring the Earth with us to Alpha, saving not just those deemed worthy by the ULN, but all who have endured through The Burning. From this comes the Daybreaker, whose onboard Gravity Drive allows it to "tow" the planet via the force of a man-made black hole. As the ship must also act as a Second Sun along the precarious fifty-year voyage, the only source of heat and light between stars, Quinn and their crew must constantly fight to maintain the Daybreaker at all costs, as should it fail the Earth and its few remaining inhabitants will freeze in mere minutes.
While the launch of the Daybreaker is met with the wrath of the ULN, an uneasy standoff endures six months into the journey... until an unsettling discovery in deep space threatens both the ship and the planet in its wake.
