Summary

History of the Russian Cmpaign, Undertaken by the Emperor Napoleon in the Year 1812 is a historical account of the French invasion of Russia, written by French general and a historian Count Philip de Segur. The French invasion of Russia of 1812 was begun by Napoleon to force Russia back into the Continental blockade of the United Kingdom. On 24 June 1812 and the following days, the first wave of the multinational Grande Armée crossed the border into Russia with somewhere around 600,000 soldiers, the opposing Russian field forces amounted to around 180,000–200,000 at this time. Through a series of long forced marches, Napoleon pushed his army rapidly through Western Russia in a futile attempt to destroy the retreating Russian Army of Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly, winning just the Battle of Smolensk in August. Under its new Commander in Chief Mikhail Kutuzov, the Russian Army continued to retreat employing attrition warfare against Napoleon forcing the invaders to rely on a supply system that was incapable of feeding their large army in the field. The fierce Battle of Borodino, seventy miles west of Moscow, was a narrow French victory that resulted in a Russian general withdrawal to the south of Moscow near Kaluga. On 14 September, Napoleon and his army of about 100,000 men occupied Moscow, only to find it abandoned, and the city was soon ablaze. Napoleon stayed in Moscow for 5 weeks, waiting for a peace offer that never came. Lack of food for the men and fodder for the horses, hypothermia from the bitter cold and guerilla warfare from Russian peasants and Cossacks led to great losses. Three days after the Battle of Berezina, only around 10,000 soldiers of the main army remained. On 5 December, Napoleon left the army and returned to Paris.

    DESCRIPTION:
My Blue Book of Grammar is a course that has been conceptualized and designed keeping in mind the increasingly dynamic role of the English language in today’s world. Especially in our country, where English serves as the lingua franca, a grammar course has to offer not only an exposition of the pedagogy but also the exhibition of the utility of that pedagogy. The aim of a grammar series should be to encourage the development of competency amongst learners, even though their proficiency levels may vary. While the level of exposure to English of all learners may be different, a grammar series should aid in the development of a certain level of confidence amongst the learners, with the end result being that they are able to converse without hesitation in English.

There is one day in Joan Childs' life that she wishes she could do over: the day her daughter, Pam, a brilliant psychotherapist, plunged from a 15-story building to her death. In this vivid memoir, Childs, a psychotherapist, explains how her daughter's life was taken by the most unforgiving of executioners: bipolar disorder. It was the delusions, not her daughter, who made the final decision to end her life.
Why Did She Jump? provides an intimate, uncompromising look into one mother's search for peace, understanding, and clarity amid the chaos surrounding her daughter's tragic death. It is a masterful recounting of the events leading up to her suicide and lifts the veil of shame and secrecy as it forges a path toward understanding mental illness.
Even though Pam and Joan were skilled therapists, Pam could not be saved. Joan recounts vivid memories of Pam's life, the highs and lows, the red flags; how her daughter healed unreachable patients while she unraveled; and how she fooled everyone into thinking she was stable.
With searing honesty and great insight, Childs offers a rallying cry of support for anyone going through a similar struggle.

Dick Turner is a farmer who continually struggles but fails to make a profit on his farm; Mary gave up her independence and married him out of shame at still being single in her 30s. Their marriage is failing and they both feel frustrated with their lives and frequently lash out at the black workers on the farm where they live. However, Mary, starved of social interaction and intellectual stimulation, gradually becomes close to the black cook Moses, with disastrous consequences for the Turners and for their white compatriots. In her early 20’s, Catherine Renfro received a phone call no one should have. In broken hopelessness, her brother, Barrett, called out with despair before taking his own life. She and her father would rush over to his home only to find out that he was no longer with them.Catherine went through a season of grief that hundreds of thousands of people endure every year in America. But even in the midst of anger, suffering, and guilt, she would say that Christ never left her.In Hope, Hurt, and Healing, Catherine Renfro addresses the reality of loss, the feeling of brokenness, the guilt of living on while also pointing to the hope of the gospel, the peace of relying on Christ, and the trusting in God even during the broken seasons. She offers a real look at suicide loss, but she does not simply live in the despair. Instead, she uses her own life to point people to Christ and lean on his goodness to discover hope for the present and healing for the future.
