Synopsis

A tempestuous romantic tale set in seventeenth-century Scotland about forbidden love and the indomitable strength of the human spirit as Kara, a medieval Scottish Lady, must marry Henry, only a boy. 
 
 
 
Trapped by fate, Kara fears what their union will be like—especially its consummation. But luckily, much to her relief, what her "husband" needs a mother's care and not a lover's touch. 
 
 
 
Yet nearby is an older man, her husband's trusted older half-brother, who longs for Kara with a true heart. Ian's deep attraction to Kara grows into scandalous desire and as he struggles to put it aside, his flaming passion only grows stronger, a passion which puts him, Kara, and his half-brother Henry in ever-increasing danger. As forces around the throne and enemies who stand allied against the Mckie clan and against Kara in particular start to do whatever it will take to take the throne away from Henry, Kara and Ian must protect him and do whatever it takes to keep the boy-king safe. 
 
 
 
Only Ian's undying devotion to her and to the young king gives Kara the strength to face what she has to face, a future fraught with deadly intrigue—a future that may destroy everything she holds dear and everyone she loves.
