Industry expert Keith Elliot Greenberg chronicles pro wrestling through the most memorable, controversial, and polarizing period of the last two decades

As a new decade dawned, 2020 was supposed to be the best year to be a wrestling fan. Finally, WWE had serious competition in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), and there were viable secondary promotions and a thriving international indie scene. Few in the industry realized that in China, a mysterious virus had begun to spread. By the time a pandemic was declared in March, the business — and the world — was in disarray. For the first time, pro wrestling was no longer seen as escapism, as real-world events intruded on the fantasy. Still, when everything else shut down, wrestling never went away. Despite cancellations and empty arena shows, there were great innovations, like the cinematic match — battles shot to look like movies — and the “ThunderDome,” which replicated the live experience with fan faces surrounding the ring on LED screens. On the indie circuit, matches were held outdoors with spectators separated into socially distanced pods. The entire time, New York Times bestselling author and historian Keith Elliot Greenberg was chronicling the scene, juxtaposing pro wrestling developments with actual news events like the U.S. presidential election and Brexit. The result, Follow the Buzzards: Pro Wrestling in the Age of COVID-19, captures the dread, confusion, and spontaneous creativity of this uncertain era while exploring the long-term consequences.

World in Their Hands - The Story...

Shortlisted for the Sunday Times Rugby Book of the Year 2023 World in their Hands recounts the remarkable events that led to a group of friends from south-west London staging the inaugural Women’s Rugby World Cup in 1991. The tournament was held just 13 years after teams from University College London and King’s contested a match that catalysed the growth of the women’s game in the UK, and the organisers overcame myriad obstacles before, during and after the World Cup. Those challenges, which included ingrained misogyny, motherhood, a recession, the Gulf War and the collapse of the Soviet Union, provide a fitting framing device for a book that celebrates female achievement in the face of adversity. Although ostensibly a story about women’s rugby, this is a tale that has rare crossover appeal. It is not only the account of a group of inspirational women who took on the institutional misogyny that existed in rugby clubs across the globe to put on a first ever Women’s Rugby World Cup. It is also the compelling and relatable tale of how those women, their peers and others in the generations before them, reshaped the idea of what it means to be a woman, finding acceptance and friendship on boggy rugby pitches. At the time, with the men’s game tying itself up in knots about professionalism and apartheid, these women were a breath of fresh air. Three decades on, their achievements deserve to be highlighted to a wider audience.

Logline: A basketball star risks his chances at a college scholarship when he competes in a boxing tournament just hours before the big game.
Synopsis: Jack Scratch is the star player for his high school basketball team, on the fast track to a college scholarship and perhaps a career in the NBA.
Jack's journey takes a detour after single mother Janet is saved from a mugger by two boxers: Karl "Sweet Sugar" Brown, a former heavyweight contender who now trains fighters, and Paveli "Punch" Pangora, a Slovenian slugger seeking US citizenship.
After Janet befriends the two boxers, Jack checks out the gritty yet legendary "Sweet’s Sweat Box Gym” for himself. Jack spars with "Bruiser" Bobby Studd, the resident gym bully, and shockingly gets up off the canvas after Studd knocks him down. Despite Bobby's bruising, Jack finds the individual nature of boxing a refreshing challenge after years of carrying his basketball teammates.
Sweet and Punch compete for the role of trainer to Jack as well as a romantic partner to Janet. However, Janet, as well as Jack's basketball coach, "Quick" Rick Steele, see boxing as a harmful distraction from Jack's pursuit of a college basketball scholarship. Mom and Coach are furious because Jack's bruised hands from boxing are affecting his basketball shooting abilities.

Jack, trained by Punch, enters a local boxing tournament and wins his semifinal bout to compete the following week against Bobby, trained by Sweet. However, the boxing tournament finals are scheduled mere hours before the Northeast Classic, an important basketball game that has a direct influence on Jack’s scholarship chances. As Coach Steele warns his star player, "It's your choice, Jack. Make your path, but stick with it. I know you're young, and the world seems like your oyster, but you already got people following your lead, and they need to know which way to head.”
Fight or Play Basketball is a found family story with a backdrop of sports.

The gripping and revealing autobiography of one of Britain's most successful international cyclists of the modern era

'Getting in a break was my one chance of winning. The hard part was working out, again and again, how to make that chance count'

Sharp, resourceful and a permanent outsider; for nearly 20 years Steve Cummings determinedly blazed his own winning trail in international cycling. A maverick who defied the dominant teams, to record a sequence of gloriously improbable victories, he has lived and raced with legends of the sport - Cavendish, Wiggins, Froome, Thomas and others - about whom he has strong views and untold stories.

This autobiography of one of Britain's most successful international riders of the modern era takes the reader from Steve's earliest days as a junior, pounding across the flatlands of the Wirral, through his love-hate relationships with the British Cycling track cycling squad, to his series of top-level breakaway victories in the Tour de France, Tour of Britain and Vuelta a España and - rather than standout physical talent - how developing his own strategies and training techniques enabled him to succeed against the odds.

The Break will be the first full-length account of the life and times of, in the words of ProCycling magazine, a 'universally popular and respected rider in the cycling world'.

Fitness challenges are an exciting and empowering way to push the boundaries of your physical and mental capabilities. They offer a structured environment to test your limits and improve your overall health. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting on your fitness journey, taking on a fitness challenge provides an opportunity to grow, overcome obstacles, and develop a deeper understanding of what your body and mind are truly capable of.
At its core, a fitness challenge is designed to push you beyond your comfort zone. It’s about stepping outside of the familiar and embracing the unknown. This process not only helps you build strength and endurance but also cultivates resilience. The challenges you face, whether physical or mental, are what drive your progress and teach you valuable lessons that will stay with you long after the challenge is over.
Understanding the concept of pushing your limits is crucial in this journey. Our bodies are incredibly adaptable, and with the right training, they can achieve remarkable feats. However, the real challenge lies in the mind. The mental barriers we encounter—self-doubt, fear of failure, or simply the discomfort of pushing past our limits—are often the most difficult to overcome. Fitness challenges teach you how to break through these mental barriers and develop a mindset that thrives on resilience and determination.
