Synopsis

The sequel to The Law of Second Marriages, the best-selling and critically acclaimed poetry book by Christine. With "terrifying sparseness and intensity", as Cyril Wong observes, Christine threads together stories of the Separation between Singapore and Malaysia with the separation between her parents. Her searing vision, ambitious and intimate, opens up emotional spaces in unlikely places.

"Christine's writing balances a journalist's clarity with a poet's desire to color and invent. In this boldly innovative book, she tells how the history of a family and that of a nation curiously come to mirror each other. By alternating poems with news clippings, photos, and google searches, she also creates a dialogue between public and private, personal and political, fact and fantasy. At times, the effect is poignant, at times playful, but in every instance, Christine proves she knows how "to love/ like an economist" and make every word shine." - Elaine Equi, author of Click and Clone

Marguerite Radclyffe-Hall was born on August 12th, 1880 to wealthy parents who separated while she was still an infant. Her parents thereafter paid little attention to her. Hall was educated privately, and then at King’s College London. Later she travelled to Europe, settling in Dresden, Germany. With the death of her paternal grandfather she inherited a large estate and was then able to live as she pleased.
In Germany, Hall met Mabel Batten and fell in love despite the twenty-three year age difference. Batten gave Hall the nickname ‘John’ by which she was henceforward known in every circumstance throughout her life except in her work as an author.
In 1915, Hall met and, in 1917 moved in with sculptor Una Troubridge, with whom she would remain for the rest of her life.
Hall wrote poetry all throughout her twenties and thirties. She had published Dedicated to Arthur Sullivan as early as 1894, and five further volumes of collected works were released before she stopped writing poetry and published her first novel, The Forge, in 1924.
That same year also saw publication of The Unlit Lamp, the first work for which Hall was known as simply Radclyffe Hall.
The Well of Loneliness, the most important novel of Hall’s career, was published in 1928 to immediate sensation and controversy. It is Hall’s most direct artistic expression of her own personal sexual orientation.
After the controversy of The Well of Loneliness, Hall would publish only two more novels and a collection of short stories.
After years spent travelling in Italy and France and a series of long lasting affairs with other women (of which Troubridge was apparently aware), Hall retired with Troubridge to Rye, in East Sussex. Here, suffering from tuberculosis, she also underwent eye surgery and thereafter had difficulty reading and writing.
On October 7, 1943, Radclyffe Hall died from colon cancer at the age of sixty-three. She is buried in Highgate Cemetery in London.

Unabridged version with stage directions! Hamlet is one of the most influential and psychologically profound works in world literature. In this complete and unabridged audiobook edition, William Shakespeare's great tragedy unfolds in its full dramatic richness—performed in English by a single narrator, with all stage directions included and every character clearly announced before speaking. After the sudden death of the King of Denmark, Prince Hamlet returns home to find his mother remarried to his uncle Claudius, who has claimed the throne. When the ghost of Hamlet's father reveals that he was murdered, Hamlet is drawn into a dangerous pursuit of truth and revenge. Torn between action and doubt, reason and despair, he descends into a world of deception, betrayal, madness, and mortality. From the famous "To be, or not to be" soliloquy to the play's tragic conclusion, Hamlet explores timeless questions of conscience, identity, grief, and the human condition. Shakespeare's language combines philosophical depth with emotional intensity, making the drama as compelling today as it was four centuries ago. The inclusion of stage directions offers listeners a fuller theatrical experience, allowing scenes and movements to emerge vividly in the imagination. The clear identification of characters before each speech enhances orientation and preserves the dramatic structure of the original play. William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon and is widely regarded as the greatest playwright in the English language. As an actor, poet, and shareholder in a London theatre company, he wrote dramas that continue to shape literature and performance around the world. His tragedies, comedies, and histories remain celebrated for their poetic brilliance and unparalleled understanding of human nature. Shakespeare died in 1616, leaving behind a body of work that has become a cornerstone of world culture. This unabridged audiobook of Hamlet offers a powerful encounter with Shakespeare's masterpiece—complete, immersive, and profoundly human.

The Shangri LaTitudes of the title are not some imaginary abodes in the clouds, above and beyond ordinary reality. These latitudes are the ones which lie where the paths of Truth and Beauty cross, forming quadrants where each sub-subject comingles to form fresh ruminations, not unlike those from Rumi, not unlike Four Quartets by Eliot, though using forms unfamiliar to either poet. There are four rooms in the human heart, each one its own experiential zone where passions move around, up down and around within the stream of consciousness, as well as stirring the subconsciousness. Perhaps the latter ruminations form the greater portion of the poems in this selection. This is a book of brief poems deliberately constructed for easy reading, brief pieces that can be picked up and put down within a few moments. One or two poems may take longer to digest, but hopefully the same intensity of feeling will be there, like a bonsai arriving at your coffee table, all trim, newly in flower.
