Synopsis

When Mary and her friends try to take stock of all the academy’s derelict unapproved research projects, they stumble upon an underground room housing a small box. Surely, whoever went to the trouble of putting this box so far out of the way must’ve thought no one should ever open it under any circumstances...a fact that becomes all too apparent after the prince dons the magic tiara inside and finds it impossible to remove! Far from merely being a very persistent accessory, the prince’s new headgear is an ensemble piece, lengthening his hair and granting him a feminine physique—as best as anyone besides Mary and co. can tell, he’s now a beautiful young girl. Fearing for her behind if word should get out about what befell the prince under her watch, Mary gets on the case to find a way to peel the tiara off his noggin. Will the invincible little lady manage to lift the prince’s curse before it’s too late? And all the while, the world’s oldest, strongest vampire begins to make her move...

“A vibrantly illustrated biography of Kahlo . . . [Hesse’s] drawings and graphics [flow] seamlessly with the narration.” —Houston Chronicle

One of the most important artists of the twentieth century and an icon of courageous womanhood, Frida Kahlo lives on in the public imagination, where her popularity shows no signs of waning. She is renowned for both her paintings and her personal story, which were equally filled with pain and anguish, celebration and life. Thousands of words, including her own, have been written about Kahlo, but only one previous biography has recorded her fascinating, difficult life. Frida Kahlo by María Hesse offers a highly unique way of getting to know the artist by presenting her life in graphic novel form, with striking illustrations that reimagine many of Kahlo’s famous paintings.

Originally published in Spanish in 2016, Frida Kahlo has already found an enthusiastic audience in the Spanish-speaking world, with some 20,000 copies sold in just a few months. This translation introduces English-language readers to Kahlo’s life, from her childhood and the traumatic accident that would change her life and her artwork, to her complicated love for Diego Rivera and the fierce determination that drove her to become a major artist in her own right. María Hesse tells the story in a first-person narrative, which captures both the depths of Frida’s suffering and her passion for art and life.

“Despite the often light mood of the artwork, the book never shies from weighty consideration of the physical pain and personal loss that gave way—in fleeting but significant moments—to Kahlo’s artistic triumph.” —Publishers Weekly

“By turns heartbreaking and heart-swelling, this is the story of a working-class boy overcoming grinding violence to play among the rock gods. Every hopeless boy should read it.” - Caitlin Moran
Jack Jones is a wordsmith with a guitar. Best known as the singer and guitarist of TRAMPOLENE and lead guitarist with Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres, his work blends spoken word, raw honesty, and melodic power.
TRAMPOLENE’s fierce, poetic rock ’n’ roll has won the admiration of The Libertines, Liam Gallagher, and John Cooper Clarke, with two No.1 Independent Albums and the honour of opening Swansea Arena in 2022.
Jack’s story is one of survival and defiance. By five he had survived a bone tumour and begun to see the cracks in the world; by sixteen he was living with Crohn’s Disease. Through it all, the constants have been his blistering guitar and his poetry - about the struggles and dreams of everyday life, about love, adversity, growing up in Swansea, and seeing the world as it is.
“Jack Jones’ words light up the printed page like magnesium released into oxygen.” - Pete Paphides
This audiobook gathers that same voice - sharp, funny, vulnerable, and unflinchingly real.

In its first appearance in 1892, Israel Zangwill's Children of the Ghetto created a sensation in both England and America, becoming the first Anglo-Jewish bestseller and establishing Zangwill as the literary voice of Anglo-Jewry. A novel set in late nineteenth-century London, Children of the Ghetto gave an inside look into an immigrant community that was almost as mysterious to the more established middle-class Jews of Britain as to the non-Jewish population, providing a compelling analysis of a generation caught between the ghetto and modern British life. "Aesop's Fables have been cherished for generations, imparting timeless wisdom through delightful animal tales. Let me share a couple of these fables with you: The Tortoise and the Hare: In this classic fable, a speedy hare challenges a slow-moving tortoise to a race. Overconfident, the hare takes a nap during the race, while the persistent tortoise keeps plodding along. To everyone's surprise, the tortoise wins the race, teaching us that steady effort often triumphs over reckless speed. The Boy Who Cried Wolf: A young shepherd boy amuses himself by falsely shouting, "Wolf!" to trick the villagers. When a real wolf appears and threatens the sheep, the boy cries for help, but the villagers no longer believe him. The moral? Honesty and integrity matter, and false alarms erode trust. Remember, these fables hold valuable lessons that resonate across cultures and time."
