  Akhenaten, originally named Amenhotep IV, emerged as one of ancient Egypt’s most enigmatic and controversial pharaohs. His rise to power marked the beginning of a transformative period in Egyptian history, characterized by significant religious, cultural, and political changes. Born into the illustrious 18th Dynasty, Akhenaten was the son of Amenhotep III and Queen Tiye. As a young prince, he was not initially destined for the throne, but circumstances eventually positioned him as the successor. 
  Upon ascending to the throne, Akhenaten quickly distinguished himself from his predecessors. Unlike his father, whose reign was marked by prosperity and relative stability, Akhenaten pursued a path that would challenge long-established traditions. Initially, he ruled under the name Amenhotep IV, signifying continuity with the Amun-centric religious practices. However, early in his reign, he began to favor the worship of Aten, the sun disk, over the traditional pantheon. This inclination marked the first signs of his radical departure from convention. 
  One of the most significant acts of his reign was the changing of his name from Amenhotep IV to Akhenaten, which means "Effective for Aten." This change was not merely symbolic but an open declaration of his devotion to Aten, marking a clear break from the established worship of Amun and other deities. By adopting this new identity, Akhenaten positioned himself as the earthly representative of the sun disk, consolidating both religious and political authority in his hands.

  Evans and Reher identify a variety of ableist barriers that prevent disabled people from fully participating in the political process, from disenfranchisement and inaccessible polling stations to prejudice within parties and a lack of financial support for candidates who require adjustments. The work shows that while the preferences of disabled citizens are currently under-represented in parliament, disabled representatives often draw on their lived experience to advocate for their interests. The concept of experiential representation is developed to help scholars and practitioners better navigate the concept of political representation, specifically as it relates to disability.

  Letter to James C Conkling

  During the Civil War, Union supporters in President Abraham Lincoln's hometown of Springfield, Illinois, asked him to speak at a rally on September 3, 1863. Lincoln could not attend but wrote this letter to be read at the gathering by his long-time friend, James C. Conkling. The letter was accompanied by a brief note which read, "I cannot leave here now. Herewith is a letter instead. You are one of the best public readers. I have but one suggestion. Read it very slowly. And now God bless you, and all good Union-men." Shortly after the rally, John Murray Forbes wrote to Lincoln, referring to the letter and the Emancipation Proclamation issued on January 1, 1863. Forbes declared that the letter "will live in history side by side with your proclamation." He noted, "It meets the fears of the timid and the doubts of the reformer. It proves that the Proclamation and the policy resulting from it are the most conservative, both of liberty and of our form of government."
