Through a rich narrative that intertwines historical accounts with vivid storytelling, Johnson provides readers with an authentic portrayal of these rogue adventurers. His use of detailed character sketches, arresting anecdotes, and well-researched maritime history situates the reader in a world where treachery and treasure coalesced amid the tumult of the 17th and 18th centuries. This literary work not only entertains but also serves as an invaluable resource for understanding the societal dynamics and cultural implications of piracy in colonial times. Captain Charles Johnson, an enigmatic figure whose true identity remains subject to speculation, is often regarded as one of the foremost chroniclers of maritime lore. His extensive knowledge of nautical life, combined with his access to firsthand accounts from sailors and outlaws, enriched his narrative, lending a gritty authenticity to his depiction of pirates such as Blackbeard and Bartholomew Roberts. Johnson's background as a sailor himself likely informed his unique insights into the pirate code and the allure of the high seas, evoking both fascination and fear. Nesta Helen Webster (24 August 1876 - 16 May 1960) was a controversial historian, occultist, and author who revived conspiracy theories about the Illuminati. She argued that the secret society s members were occultists, plotting communist world domination, using the idea of a Jewish cabal, the Masons and Jesuits as a smokescreen.
According to her, their international subversion included the French Revolution, 1848 Revolution, the First World War, the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. In 1920, Webster was one of the contributing authors who wrote the The Jewish Peril, a series of articles in the London Morning Post, centered on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. These articles were subsequently compiled and published in the same year, in book form under the title of the The Cause of World Unrest. More than 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer's disease or a related form of dementia. By the year 2030, experts estimate that as many as 66 million people will be faced with this life-altering disease. These statistics impact millions of caregivers. Compared with all types of caregivers, those who assist someone with dementia experience the highest levels of burnout, depression, poor health, and premature death. A Dignified Life, Revised and Expanded offers hope and help.

Ten years ago, the first edition of A Dignified Life changed the way the caregiving community approached Alzheimer's disease by showing caregivers how to act as a Best Friend to the person. Firmly grounded in the latest knowledge about dementia, this expanded edition offers a wealth of tips and advice.

While medical treatment of the disease hasn't changed, our understanding and awareness of treating people in a more caring way has changed. With no cure, respectful care by effective and compassionate care partners is the only real "treatment" available. The Best Friends Approach is successful because it sustains people's connection to their world, their loved ones, and themselves. A Dignified Life shows how to bring dignity, meaning, and peace of mind to the lives of both those who have Alzheimer's and dementia and those who care for them.

A Gathering of Soldiers relates the story of Daniel Ryan, an Irish immigrant who has begun a new life in Georgia just as the events leading up to the momentous civil war in America have begun to unfold. The book describes his experiences upon enlisting with a group of his peers, in a north Georgia militia company, following Abraham Lincoln's first summons for troops to invade the southern states.
The novel follows the progress of Ryan, and his volunteer comrades as they evolve into soldiers, from their first posting on garrison duty on the Savannah River estuary, before journeying to Virginia to take part in the manoeuvring and the bloody engagements of the peninsular campaign in the summer of 1862, all of which changes the lives and outlooks of the surviving boys forever.

    Emotional Manipulation -...

Emotional manipulation is a powerful yet often subtle form of influence that shapes human interactions in profound ways. It involves deliberately using emotions to control, persuade, or exploit others to achieve a personal objective. Unlike healthy influence, which fosters mutual understanding and respect, manipulation is often deceptive, one-sided, and aimed at serving the manipulator’s interests at the expense of the other person. While some forms of emotional influence can be harmless or even beneficial, manipulation crosses ethical boundaries when it distorts reality, erodes autonomy, and undermines personal well-being.
The impact of emotional manipulation can be significant, affecting individuals on both psychological and emotional levels. Victims of manipulation may experience self-doubt, confusion, guilt, and anxiety, often questioning their own perceptions and emotions. Manipulators, on the other hand, gain a sense of power and control, using tactics such as guilt-tripping, gaslighting, and passive-aggressiveness to achieve their desired outcomes. This dynamic is common in personal relationships, workplaces, and even society at large, where emotional influence is used to sway public opinion and reinforce social hierarchies.
One of the most challenging aspects of emotional manipulation is its subtle nature. Unlike overt forms of coercion or aggression, manipulation often operates under the surface, making it difficult to recognize until significant damage has been done. It may appear as concern, affection, or logical reasoning, but beneath the surface, it is designed to control another person’s emotions and decisions. In romantic relationships, this can manifest as excessive flattery followed by emotional withdrawal, creating a cycle of dependency. In the workplace, manipulative bosses or colleagues may use subtle guilt or praise to extract extra work without reciprocation.
