Synopsis

Winner of a 2025 CMA Book Award from the Catholic Media Association: Healing and Self Help (First Place).Hurts experienced in our youth, be they traumas or trials, might get stowed away, yet our inner child remembers. It doesn’t matter how much time passes or how mature we become; such hurts can eventually cause friction in our daily lives, casting a long shadow over our relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, and our God.Written in a compassionate and pastoral tone by licensed marriage and family therapist Brya Hanan, Befriending Your Inner Child: A Catholic Approach to Inner Healing invites you to venture deep into your heart and befriend your hurts, emotional wounds, and childish behavior—or in the world of psychotherapy, your “inner child”—to reclaim your truest self, experience inner wholeness and healing, and strengthen your relationship with God and others.Part one of the book explains why it is essential to befriend your inner child as well as the wounds and self-protections that this “child within” holds. Through this discovery, you will learn how to transform your deepest hurts into opportunities for healing and integration. Part two of the book offers practical tools to tend to your inner child compassionately.Through Hanan’s practical “5 A’s,” you will learn how toanchor yourself in God and in your God-given body;acknowledge your feelings and where you notice them showing up in your body;attune to your deepest wounds, core beliefs, and distressing feelings;ask God to show you what you need and how to participate in his healing work; andact consistently with loving compassion toward yourself.Hanan vulnerably shares her own journey of “reparenting” her inner child with God and offers additional case studies from her clinical practice that highlight how different life stories and life stages can respond to befriending their inner child. Each chapter includes charts, lists, and “Befriend Work” exercises that challenge readers to reflect further on the content. If you long to experience more fulfillment and wholeness, this book is for you.

Born into a pagan family in a remote Ethiopian farming community, Dr. Alemu Beeftu's life was transformed when he first heard Psalm 15 read by a missionary. That moment ignited a deep desire to serve "the God of the Psalms." Driven by determination, he left home, learned to read and write, and immersed himself in Scripture. After fleeing severe persecution of Christians in Ethiopia in 1978, Dr. Beeftu settled in the United States, where he earned a PhD from Michigan State University.

He epitomizes what can occur through a mature blending of Christ's apostolic and teaching anointings. God wants to open the heavens over your life, and this tremendous book will show you how." —Dutch Sheets, Founder of Dutch Sheets Ministries and author of Intercessory Prayer

This collection of correspondences between Calvin and Sadoleto is an excellent primary source view of the most controversial issues facing Christians at the time.  The split between Reformation and Roman Catholic beliefs was growing ever larger and the consequences more severe.  While Calvin writes with deep theological arguments and in defense of individuals searching for truth, Sadoleto’s pleas sound more like an emotional cry for unity, peace-keeping, and the return of the Catholic Church’s lost children.  This exchange and the ideas laid out in Calvin’s letters are not only pertinent to the understanding of the history of the Christian church, but are also indefinitely relevant to individuals of any time period or circumstance looking to defend their faith and those in pursuit of truth.

The Tao Te Ching is a Taoist philosophical treatise. Lao Tzu, a great Ancient Chinese philosopher and teacher, is considered to be the author of this book. We owe this book to an unnamed guardian who kept safe the far western borders of a country, Zhou in the fifth century BC. The legend says that exhausted from misunderstanding Teacher with a tired heart went on his last journey – to die in a dessert. The guardian recognized great Lao Tzu, called him by name and, nobody knows how, persuaded the wise man to tell a world about Dao and De. "When you said Dao, you said nothing", the teacher replied. And you were wrong: five thousand words, that contains this book, have been existing for two and a half thousand years...

A jewel of profound and transcendent wisdom, the Bhagavad-gita, according to Adous Huxley "is the most systematic statement of spiritual evolution of endowing value to mankind". The Bhagavad-Gita's message-the Supreme Being guiding an individual soul trapped and groping in darkness on the battlefield of worldly life- indeed relates in all times to all people.
In 1962, working alone with a manual typewriter, the renowned bhakti scholar Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada condensed the Bhagavad-gita's seven hundred verses into simple rhyming Bengali couplets. This book, called Gitar-Gan, first published in 1973, sold nearly a million copies and is still widely popular throughout Bengal and Bangladesh today. The book in your hands presents Gitar Gan fully translated and poetically arranged in English for the first time.
"Both veterans and newcomers to Bhagavad-gita will appreciate this highly readable and inspiring edition. Rarely does one find answers to the big questions in such an enjoyable way." -Sitala Devi, Author The Glorious Life of Srila Narottama Dasa Thakur
