Synopsis

The first Lavochkin fighter was designated I-22 and was also the first of the triad of new Soviet interceptors (Lavochkin, Yakovlev and Ilyushin) to take flight, on March 30, 1939.Lavochkin, together with Gorbunov and Gudkov, had created a simple and robust fighter, relatively good-looking, but which had the problem of choosing strategic materials, or rather, the choice not to use them.It was, in fact, the only one of the three that was built entirely of wood, except, of course, for the fundamental elements such as the landing gear, weapons, engine, ailerons (metal and covered in fabric). The retractable landing gear and the M-105P engine were signs of relative modernity, and certainly worthy of note was its maximum speed of 605 km/h.The weapons were high rate of fire, two ShKAS cannons and a ShVAK cannon.Despite its heavy structure, the real problem was the tendency to enter a spin in tight turns, which certainly did not encourage to make the most of its flight characteristics, already not very exciting. However, it was successful as a tactical support fighter, especially used on the Finnish front, and within the limits of its autonomy, also valid for escorting bombers. It was capable of flying in cold climates and often had skis, which, however, worsened its performance in flight. The first LaGG-1 model was followed by subsequent models, the LaGG-3, the La-5, the La-7 and, finally, the La-9, but by then at the end of the war.

There are countless examples of battles that take place in wars after a peace treaty is signed. The last battle of the Civil War was a skirmish in Texas that Confederate forces won, nearly a month after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox. As fate would have it, the last fighting of the Civil War took place two days after Confederate President Jefferson Davis had been captured in Georgia
It’s certainly rare for the most famous battle of a war to take place after the peace treaty is signed, but luckily for Andrew Jackson, the War of 1812 was that unique exception. Less than a year after his victory in the Battle of Horseshoe Creek, Jackson led his forces into a more important battle at the Battle of New Orleans. The British hoped to grab as much of the land on the western frontier as they could, especially New Orleans, which had a prominent position on the Mississippi River for trading. With more than 8,000 soldiers aboard a British fleet sailing in from Jamaica in early January 1815, the attack on New Orleans promised to be a significant one, while Jackson’s men defended New Orleans with about half that number. This went on despite the fact that the two sides had signed the Treaty of Ghent on Christmas Eve 1814, which was supposed to end the war.
Despite the fact the French & Indian War had recently concluded, Pontiac led the first major attack of Pontiac’s War in May 1763, when he and 300 of his men attacked Fort Detroit in what is now the city by the same name. Unfortunately for his cause, Pontiac failed to gauge just how strong the British presence there was, and his attack was quickly repelled. On the other hand, he was not a man who gave up easily, so instead of retreating, he and his warriors would lay siege to the British stronghold. In the days that followed, word spread of his efforts, and in short order nearly 1,000 men from various tribes in the area had joined him.

    Childhood and Love -...

Love, in all its forms, is the cornerstone of human connection. From the moment we are born, our ability to form meaningful relationships is shaped by the experiences we have with those closest to us. These early interactions create an emotional blueprint that influences how we perceive love, trust others, and navigate relationships throughout our lives. While we may not always be conscious of these influences, they run deep, silently informing our choices and behaviors in ways that often feel instinctive.

At the heart of understanding love lies the concept of attachment. The bonds we form with caregivers in childhood provide the foundation for our emotional development. A child who feels consistently supported and valued is likely to grow into an adult with the capacity for healthy, secure relationships. Conversely, a lack of stability or warmth in these early years can leave emotional scars, leading to patterns of avoidance, anxiety, or disorganization in adulthood. These patterns are not fixed but can be understood, explored, and ultimately transformed with insight and effort.

This book is an invitation to explore how your early experiences have shaped your understanding of love and relationships. By delving into the science of attachment, family dynamics, and emotional development, we aim to uncover the ways in which childhood molds our ability to connect with others. You will learn how unconscious patterns from your past may resurface in your adult relationships, sometimes creating challenges that seem impossible to overcome.

The Institutes of Justinian is a component of the Corpus Juris Civilis, the sixth-century codification of Roman law ordered by the Byzantine emperor Justinian I. It is largely based upon the Institutes of Gaius, a Roman jurist of the second century A.D. The other parts of the Corpus Juris Civilis are the Digest, the Codex Justinianus, and the Novellae Constitutiones ("New Constitutions" or "Novels"). Justinian's Institutes was one part of his effort to codify Roman law and to reform legal education, of which the Digest also was a part. Whereas the Digest was to be used by advanced law students, Justinian's Institutes was to be a textbook for new students. The Institutes of Justinian is arranged much like Gaius's work, being divided into three books covering "persons," "things,", and "actions." Unlike the Digest, the extracts do not provide inscriptions indicating from whom the original material was taken.
