Sinopsis

Footsteps Forgotten unveils Earth's hidden narratives by exploring ichnology, the study of trace fossils, focusing on fossil footprints. This unique approach sheds light on ancient migrations and pivotal moments in human evolution and prehistory. The book argues that footprints offer a direct record of past life, revealing how our ancestors moved, lived, and interacted with their environment. For example, the Laetoli footprints in Tanzania provide a snapshot of early hominin bipedalism, capturing a moment millions of years ago. It highlights the importance of these often-overlooked clues for understanding our shared past. The book provides a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing from earth sciences, paleontology, archaeology, geology, and anthropology, making it accessible to a broad audience. It emphasizes the significance of ancient migration routes as arteries of cultural exchange, technological diffusion, and genetic mixing. Footsteps Forgotten progresses through fundamental concepts, case studies of significant footprint sites, and a synthesis of findings to present a broader picture of human history. High-resolution photographs, maps, and 3D models visually enhance the reader's understanding. It begins by introducing the basics of footprint analysis and geological preservation, then delves into global case studies illustrating how footprint evidence has reshaped our understanding of specific historical or prehistoric events. The final section synthesizes these findings, discussing implications for understanding modern human behavior and challenges.

When well-designed institutions function properly, people thrive. Few institutions have been more ingeniously designed than the U.S. federal government via the Constitution in 1787. This auspicious beginning more than two centuries ago helps explain why the U.S. remains a magnet for opportunity seekers, students, entrepreneurs, dissidents, and persecuted believers.Yet for decades now, America’s federal government has been underperforming. Social Security and Medicare face looming insolvency. The federal government’s “war on poverty” has failed to “end poverty” and arguably made it worse. In 2012, the United States Postal Service lost more money than the nation spent on the State Department, and Amtrak has lost money every year since being created in 1971. How can an enduring institution, so thoughtfully crafted, now produce such poor results? The federal government has grown so much because it serves a new and different vision, American Progressivism. American Progressives believed that democratically elected, public-minded federal politicians and employees could use federal programs to solve the nation’s greatest problems in a way no other American institution could. This idea justified the federal government’s massive expansion: today, the federal government runs over 1,500 programs and employs over 5% of the U.S. workforce.Yet federal results do not match Progressive expectations. Three key problems – “windfall politics”, “the government surcharge”, and “complexity failure” – overlooked by American Progressives explain the federal government’s consistent failures. American Progressive’s rosy-eyed view of human nature and political institutions have not been borne out by the evidence. In an era of substantial political fermentation and debate, rediscovering and re-applying American Republicanism represents the best path forward for the United States. The federal government should retain many necessary responsibilities but turn over those where it has failed.

The contents of this volume consist of addresses delivered at various times before Lodges of the Theosophical Society and selected for their reference to the subject of immortality. Some of them were published in The Path, Vol. II.
In order to make the chapters more or less coherent, the matter has been slightly rearranged, but certain repetitions will be noticed which are unavoidable, owing to the inter-relation of the subjects discussed and to the fact that, having been addressed to different audiences, some explanation of the bearing of the part on the whole was necessary. I have not attempted to eliminate these redundancies, for the philosophy, sketchily outlined herein, is not easy to grasp, inasmuch as its fundamental data and principles are in contradistinction to much of the current thought of our time.

    Where empire rose, mercy fell.
In No Place for Mercy, ancient Rome is unmasked—not as the marble-clad cradle of civilization, but as a brutal stage where sex, violence, and power played their most calculated roles. With a piercing lens, this provocative and deeply researched work reveals how sexual violence was not only a consequence of conquest but a deliberate tool of political manipulation and imperial propaganda.
From the mythologized Rape of the Sabine Women to the whispered scandals of imperial courts, No Place for Mercy exposes how Rome’s leaders wielded control over bodies as a means to control the narrative, transforming victims into symbols and violence into spectacle.
Drawing from primary sources, inscriptions, and visual art, this groundbreaking book explores how Roman elites exploited sexual violence to define citizenship, masculinity, and moral order. It challenges romanticized visions of antiquity and forces us to confront the uncomfortable truths beneath Rome’s glorious facade.
Bold, unflinching, and urgently relevant, this is history that speaks to today’s conversations about power, gender, and the weaponization of sexuality. For scholars, students, and anyone who dares to ask what lies beneath the empire’s polished stone, No Place for Mercy is an essential and unforgettable read.

The first Christians were weird. Just how weird is often lost on today's believers.

Within Roman society, the earliest Christians stood out for the oddness of their beliefs and practices. They believed unusual things, worshiped God in strange ways, and lived a unique lifestyle. They practiced a whole new way of thinking about and doing religion that would have been seen as bizarre and dangerous when compared to Roman religion and most other religions of the ancient world.

Award-winning author, blogger, speaker, and New Testament teacher Nijay Gupta traces the emerging Christian faith in its Roman context in this accessible and engaging book. Christianity would have been seen as radical in the Roman world, but some found this new religion attractive and compelling. The first Christians dared to be different, pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable, transformed how people thought about religion, and started a movement that grew like wildfire. This book shows how the example of the earliest Christians can offer today's believers encouragement and hope.
