Synopsis

Marvin Spangler is a self-centered, ill-equipped teacher of high school history, tasked by his principal to form an auctioneering team that has a chance in hell of winning a Tennessee state championship.

It comes as a welcome diversion from his tepid life as an unfulfilled husband to his icy pediatrician wife Lydia, and barely-there father to a unique set of children.

He assembles a team comprising three very different souls: Larry Jr., the damaged prodigy, is led by fate, Eric, the obsessed jock, by unrequited love, and Helen, the usually disinterested beauty, by an inexplicable fascination.

Together they surrender to a journey that carries them to the cusp of the summit of their dreams... and the nightmares awaiting far down below.

Don't worry about what Dennis Monk did when he was drinking. He's sober now, ready to rejoin the world of leases and paychecks, reciprocal friendships, and healthy romances—if only the world would agree to take him back. When his parents kick him out of their suburban home, mere months into his frangible sobriety, the twenty-six-year-old spends his first dry summer couch surfing through South Philadelphia, struggling to find a place for himself.

Monk's haphazard pilgrimage leads him through a city in flux: growing, gentrifying, haunted by its history and its unrealized potential. Everyone he knew from college seems to be doing better than him—and most of them aren't even doing that well. His run-ins with former classmates, estranged drinking buddies, and prospective lovers challenge his version of events past and present, revealing that recovery is not the happy ending he'd expected, only a fraught next chapter.

Like a sober, millennial Jesus' Son, Michael Deagler's debut novel is the poignant confession of a recovering addict adrift in the fragmenting landscape of America's middle class. Shot through with humor, hubris, and hard-earned insight, Early Sobrieties charts the limbos that exist between our better and worst selves, offering a portrait of a stifled generation collectively slouching towards grace.

Tired of self-help books promising success, happiness, and inner peace? Good. You're holding the only book brave enough to say what you're really thinking: "Why bother?"
Welcome to Ruin Your Life Now—the ultimate anti-self-help book for overthinkers, self-saboteurs, and anyone who’s ever looked in the mirror and muttered, “Yikes.”
Written by professional over-apologizer and amateur disaster Dicholas Chad Pansy, this brutally sarcastic guide shows you how to weaponize affirmations not for success—but for spectacular failure. Learn to:
Attract toxic relationships with the efficiency of a broken dating app
Manifest crushing debt and emotional instability
Sabotage your job, body, and soul in record time
Cultivate spiritual emptiness and repel divine intervention
Alienate everyone who ever loved you (or at least tolerated you)
Think of it as your daily dose of self-destruction, disguised as a coping mechanism.
Packed with toxic affirmations, unnecessary rants, and advice so bad it circles back to genius, Ruin Your Life Now is like a car crash you can’t stop watching—except the car is your life and you’re the one behind the wheel, blindfolded.
This is not a guide to healing.
This is a how-to manual for becoming the chaotic, emotionally-unstable dumpster fire you were always meant to be.
Don’t fix your life. Ruin it. On purpose.

There are countless books about how to become a millionaire, but this book isn’t one of them. In fact, "Millionaire Beggar" takes you on a journey where riches and rags sit down for a cup of tea, laugh about life’s absurdities, and swap stories about how overrated both wealth and poverty really are. This isn’t a guide to getting rich, nor is it a cautionary tale about the pitfalls of chasing money. Instead, it’s a humorous exploration of what happens when a man who has everything decides to give it all up — not for some noble cause, but because he thought it’d be more fun to sit on a park bench with a sign that says “Spare change?”
Why write about such an unusual character? Because in a world where success is measured by the number of zeros in your bank account, I thought it’d be refreshing to dive into a life where a millionaire trades in his tailored suits for second-hand trousers and a cardboard sign. This book is an invitation to laugh at the things we take too seriously, especially money. It’s about flipping the script on what it means to be successful, and most importantly, it’s about the simple joys that come from stepping out of society’s rat race and embracing the bizarre — in style.
So, as you read, don’t worry about the moral of the story or the “right way” to live your life. Let’s just enjoy the chaos, the humour, and the adventure of a man who proves that, sometimes, being rich isn’t nearly as entertaining as sitting on the street with a sign that says, “Will beg for laughs.”
