Beschreibung

Digging into a forgotten past - and the dead left behind. San Francisco is famous for not having any cemeteries, but the claim isn't exactly what it seems. In the early 20th Century, the city relocated more than 150,000 graves to the nearby town of Colma to make way for a rapidly growing population. But an estimated fifty to sixty thousand burials were quietly built over and forgotten, only to resurface every time a new building project began. The dead still lie beneath some of the city's most cherished destinations, including the Legion of Honor, United Nations Plaza, the Asian Art Museum and the University of San Francisco. Join author Beth Winegarner as she maps the city's early burial grounds and brings back to life the dead who've been erased.

Too often, therapists and other helping professionals feel paralyzed by the fear that they don't know enough about other cultural groups to counsel clients different than themselves. Lambers Fisher sets out to mitigate these fears by providing a framework for professionals to better understand the experiences of cultural groups with whom they are not familiar.

With his encouraging and non-shaming approach, Lambers will challenge you to learn more about other cultures, accept what you do not yet know in the process, and utilize strategies that can help you become an increasingly culturally competent professional. Beyond ethnicity, you will explore issues of age, gender, sexuality, religion, acculturation, and social justice, as well as identify opportunities to strengthen your own cultural self-awareness.

Applicable for a wide range of professionals—including counselors, religious leaders, occupational therapists, educators, coaches, physical therapists, and nurses—the practical and impactful strategies in this book will allow you to: journal about your cultural competency journey; reduce cultural offenses and repair damaged relationships; avoid ethical dilemmas; build rapport with diverse clients; understand various experiences of diverse people through case examples; and help clients of any culture make meaningful life changes.

This book contains two titles. Here are some snippets of what you can find in there:
Book 1 - Why does understanding a psychological risk lead to physical reactions? The answer lies in human anatomy, specifically in the mechanisms behind real pain. Is mental pain comparable to physical pain? How does intense pain manifest? When it comes to physical pain, the process is straightforward. We rarely consider the basic motor reflexes controlled by the spine.
During physical sensation, a nervous impulse is transmitted through the nerves to the corresponding part of the brain, which then sends a response impulse to an organ. But how does mental pain occur? Our bodies possess a self-regulation function for all physiological processes. In essence, the brain responds to changes in the body's chemical processes.
Book 2 - Many believe that the most successful people in the world have mastered the ability to use their minds to attract what they desire. Imagine being able to draw what you want most into your life effortlessly, without having to take direct action. Imagine being able to manifest your goals and desires through the discipline of your thoughts.
Everything begins with thoughts, which most people don’t fully grasp, as actions are rooted in these ideas. Before diving into the methods that harness the power of the mind, it’s important to ask: What is the subconscious mind?
The subconscious is a part of the mind that, while not fully conscious, influences a person’s actions and feelings. Some view the subconscious as connected to the spirit or soul, capable of shaping your reality based on the messages it receives from your actions and beliefs.

"I request you to take advantage of this book and enter into its understanding. Please make an appointment to meet your God now, through the self-liberating process of Yoga." George Harrison

This amazing audiobook relays stories of Sri Krsna's divine pastimes from the Srimad-Bhagavatam, the summit of the ancient Vedas of India. Since time immemorial, yogis have sought even a momentary vision of Krsna who descended to earth from his transcendental abode 5000 years ago. The great sage Veda Vyasa carefully recorded those pastimes in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. These tales transport the reader from the mundane on a miraculous journey to a transcendental realm beyond time and space where everything and everyone lives in the blissful light of the eternal transcendental youth, Sri Krsna, the ultimate object of all knowledge.

The Vedas are an intriguing, mystical body of work that carries within it the seed of transcendental knowledge. We live in a world where yoga reigns supreme as the preferred, go-to method of spiritual realization, and this unique,  audio presentation paves the way for a clearer, more meaningful understanding of the powerful, enlightening yoga system. A must-have audio experience for all practitioners of yoga, advanced teachers, spiritual seekers, devotees, as well as all school and library systems.

We Jews wrongly believe we're immune to alcoholism and addiction—instead, individuals, families, and communities are suffering because of the stigmas surrounding addiction and recovery in the Jewish world.

"Is the 12 step program suitable for Jews? In this book Michael Levin shows with learning, sensitivity and wisdom why the answer is a resounding 'Yes.'" —Rabbi David Wolpe

"Shikkur is a goy." This Yiddish phrase means "Only Gentiles can be alcoholics," but it's not true. Jews suffer from alcoholism and addiction at the same rate as everyone else in society. Due to the stigma surrounding addiction in our community, people are dying unnecessarily . . . because they believe they can't get help. Jews and Booze attacks the stigmas surrounding addiction and recovery in our world.
