The Visitor by Ray Bradbury - Exiles on Mars face a barren future until Leonard Mark brings a glimpse of freedom.
Saul Williams awoke to the still morning. He looked wearily out of his tent and thought about how far away Earth was. Millions of miles, he thought. It was very bad. But then what could you do about it? Your lungs were full of the “blood-rust.” You coughed all the time.
Saul arose this particular morning at seven o’clock. He was a tall man, lean, thinned by his illness. It was a quiet morning on Mars, with the dead sea bottom flat and silent, no wind on it. The sun was clear and cool in the empty sky. He washed his face and ate breakfast.
After that, he wanted very much to be back on Earth. During the day he tried every way that it was possible to be in New York City. Sometimes, if he sat right and held his hands a certain way, he did it. He could almost smell New York. Most of the time, though, it was impossible.
Later in the morning, Saul tried to die.
He lay on the sand and told his heart to stop. It continued beating. He imagined himself leaping from a cliff or cutting his wrists, but laughed to himself—for he knew he lacked the nerve for either act.

Welcome to Veyrath Academy, a brutal fortress-school carved into the cliffs from basalt, bone, and storm. Here, noble bloodlines rule, magic pulses in family crests, and cadets train in fitted riding uniforms. But Abigail Bennett does not belong. Arriving through the towering Dragonbone Gate with nothing but damp wool, admission papers, and a sharp mind, she is a commoner thrust into a world of immense wealth and elitism. Earning her keep as a late-entry scholarship candidate and archive assistant, Abigail is immediately mocked by the sneering, crest-wearing nobles of the courtyard. Instructed by a dismissive prefect to remain "grateful, punctual, and invisible," Abigail quickly realizes that at Veyrath, names are wielded like weapons, and fear moves more predictably than the wind. But being invisible might just be her greatest advantage. Step into the magma-lit halls of Veyrath in this gripping fantasy of fierce class divides and unbreakable resolve.

In the digital purgatory of the Crucible, suffering is currency. And Galen Grimshaw is the richest man alive.
As the Rendered King of the northern server districts, Galen has spent centuries hoarding the memories and traumas of his rivals, building an omnipotent—and deeply fractured—identity. But when his latest conquest yields the mythical coordinates to the Null Node—a sanctuary completely untracked by the oppressive Lex Engine—his empire of stolen souls becomes a cage.
    Enter Lyra Lighthaven.
She is a Ghost-Tier anomaly, a woman whose mind is a terrifying, intoxicating void that Galen's god-like telepathy cannot pierce. She holds the missing half of the map, but her price is something the Rendered King has never given: his blind trust. To reach the unmapped fringes of the world, they must shatter the foundational code of the Crucible and outrun Wyatt Madden, a relentless systemic enforcer sent by the ruling Lords to erase them from existence.
Crown of Static is a breathtaking descent into a decaying cyberpunk dystopia where math dictates survival, but humanity defies calculation. Blending pulse-pounding psychological thrills, dark erotic tension, and cutting-edge sci-fi action, the second volume of The Weight of Rendered Souls pushes its anti-heroes into the claustrophobic fog of the unknown. Will Galen find the man he was before the system consumed him, or will the absolute freedom of the void tear them both apart?
