Sinossi

The Honourable Jim is an historical novel by Baroness Orczy and can be thought of as The Scarlet Pimpernel of England.
Orczy tells of those three—the woman, and the two men-playmates, enemies, lovers in turn. It seemed well-nigh impossible to attempt the isolation of the one sentimental thread from the tangled skein of passions and of hate which seventeenth century England hath flung to us out of the whirlpool of civil war and of bitter strife. In the midst of the modernisms and aggressive realism of today the life and doings of James Fiennes appear intangible, ununderstandable, a mere creation of fancy. But at Broughton Castle where he lived, it is different. There between the splendid grey walls in the stately halls, and along the labyrinthine passages, the intriguing personality of the Honourable Jim at once loses its dream-like quality. In his own old home James Fiennes at once becomes Jim—a real Jim-alive! Oh! Very much alive.

Victor-Marie Hugo (26 February 1802 - 22 May 1885) was a French poet, novelist, essayist, playwright, and dramatist of the Romantic movement. During a literary career that spanned more than sixty years, he wrote abundantly in an exceptional variety of genres: lyrics, satires, epics, philosophical poems, epigrams, novels, history, critical essays, political speeches, funeral orations, diaries, and letters public and private, as well as dramas in verse and prose.
BOOK 2: ÉPONINE: Marius had witnessed the unexpected termination of the ambush upon whose track he had set Javert; but Javert had no sooner quitted the building, bearing off his prisoners in three hackney-coaches, than Marius also glided out of the house. It was only nine o'clock in the evening.

Looking for a witty, entertaining and thought-provoking listen? Look no further than "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde, brought to life in this audiobook.

Follow the hilarious exploits of two bachelors, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, as they navigate love, deception and social etiquette in Victorian England. With razor-sharp dialogue, Wilde satirizes the upper-class society of the time, exposing its hypocrisy and ridiculousness with wit and charm.

But "The Importance of Being Earnest" is more than just a comedy of manners. Beneath the surface, it raises important questions about identity, morality and the true nature of love. Through the characters of Jack and Algernon, Wilde explores the concept of "Bunburying" – the idea of leading a double life – and challenges the rigid social conventions of the day.

Narrated with all the style and flair you'd expect from Wilde himself, this audiobook is a must-listen for anyone who loves a good laugh and a good think. So sit back, relax, and let yourself be transported to a world of wit, charm and intellectual intrigue.

One of the masterpieces of classical literature, the "Histories" describes how a small and quarrelsome band of Greek city states united to repel the might of the Persian empire. But while this epic struggle forms the core of his work, Herodotus' natural curiosity frequently gives rise to colorful digressions - a description of the natural wonders of Egypt; an account of European lake-dwellers; and far-fetched accounts of dog-headed men and gold-digging ants. With its kaleidoscopic blend of fact and legend, the "Histories" offers a compelling Greek view of the world of the fifth century BC.
BOOK 9: CALLIOPE: Mardonius, when Alexander upon his return made known to him the answer of the Athenians, forthwith broke up from Thessaly, and led his army with all speed against Athens; forcing the several nations through whose land he passed to furnish him with additional troops.
