Synopsis

An introduction to the spiritual source of the beliefs and practices that have so profoundly shaped African American religious traditions. Most of the Africans who were enslaved and brought to the Americas were from the Yoruba nation of West Africa, an ancient and vast civilization. In the diaspora caused by the slave trade, the guiding concepts of the Yoruba spiritual tradition took root in Haiti, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, and the United States. In this accessible introduction, Baba Ifa Karade provides an overview of the Yoruba tradition and its influence in the West. He describes the sixteen Orisha, or spirit gods, and shows us how to work with divination, use the energy centers of the body to internalize the teachings of Yoruba, and create a sacred place of worship. The book also includes prayers, dances, songs, offerings, and sacrifices to honor the Orisha.

Never Get Angry Again by New York Times and internationally best-selling author David J. Lieberman, is a comprehensive, holistic look at the underlying emotional, physical, and spiritual causes of anger and a practical guide to what the listener can do to gain perspective.
David J. Lieberman understands that a change in perspective is all that is needed to help keep from flying off the handle. In Never Get Angry Again, he reveals how to see anger through a comprehensive, holistic lens, illuminates the underlying emotional, spiritual, and physical components of anger, and gives the listeners simple, practical tools to snuff out anger before it even occurs.
Take a deep breath and count to ten. Meditate. Visualize your happy place.
You've probably heard all of these anger management techniques and more from friends, family, and experts, but somehow they miss the mark when it comes to coping with the complex emotion of anger.
Let's face it: if anger-management techniques were effective, you wouldn't be listening to this audiobook. These clumsy attempts to maintain calmness are usually futile and sometimes emotionally draining. The fact is, either something bothers us (causing anxiety, frustration, or anger), or it doesn't. A state of calm is better accomplished by not becoming agitated in the first place. When we fight the urge to blow up or melt down, we fight against our own nature.

People today are inundated with advice, opinions, and information about how to invest. The more data you accumulate, the thinking goes, the better decisions you'll make. In The Either/Or Investor, global investment strategist Clark Winter shows that the opposite is the case, introducing a revelatory way of thinking about the markets based on finding and assessing just enough of the right information and using your common sense.According to Winter, investing comes down to making choices. All great investors employ an "either/or" filter for evaluating and simplifying the many investment opportunities available to them. The Either/Or Investor reveals how you can emulate this thought process while remaining realistic about your own goals and needs, and gives you the tools to choose among the options that modern investors face, such as:-Fear versus greed: In an anxious post-9/11 world, discover when it's smart to make an aggressive financial move.-Developed world versus developing world: Find out if you should stick with opportunities in the United States or risk those available in the emerging economies of China, Russia, India, Mexico, and Turkey.-Anti-immigration versus migration of talent: Learn to evaluate the products that immigrants introduce to the rest of the world in order to assess the value in investing in American companies that cater to new immigrant groups.-Too much information versus too little information: Use the Internet, newspapers, and TV to your advantage. (For example, get the pros and cons about China's growing economic power so you can become informed enough to act.)-Rising interest rates versus falling interest rates: Understand how changing interest rates are a good barometer for how to spend your money.Winter shows how anyone can learn to make sound decisions in a changing world by discerning trends early in an investment cycle, and then taking advantage of these trends or steering clear. Winter also explains how to choose a money manager and how to determine what the next investment opportunities might be.Armed with Winter's methods, any investor can improve his or her own investment prowess. The Either/Or Investor is a way-both judicious and daring-for choosing a better future.

A study of supernatural activity in the halls of higher learning from the author of Haunted Oklahoma City.   Since Norman’s inception more than 120 years ago as a college town, it has gathered a shadowy history and more than a few residents who refuse to leave. Ghostly organ music and sinister whispers fill school buildings in the night. Patients walk the surgical suites of the old infirmary, which was once a quarantine ward for polio victims. Long-deceased sisters still occupy their sororities—one even requiring an exorcism—and dorms are notorious for poltergeists and unexplainable sounds. Professor Jeff Provine sheds light on some of the darker corners of this historic campus and the secrets that reside there.

I have my own survival stories and maybe this is part of the reason why all these other stories interest me so much.Everyone loves to learn about survival stories because it confirms the importance of the human spirit to live through trying and deadly situations.I’ve included thirty three true life stories in this book. The criteria was that the persons in these events had to make a conscious decision to live. They decided not to give up and some did truly incredible things to survive. We need to ask ourselves could we do some of the things they did to survive. For example, how many of us could cut off a hand to live if we were trapped in the wilderness? How many of us could survive a raft in the sea for a month to then be put into a POW prison and survive harsh treatment and torture there. These people have all illustrated the power of the human spirit to live through these experiences. And these experiences made them more confident people and better able to live through difficult situations in the future. These stories are divided up into six categories:•	Survival In War•	Survival in the Wilderness and Mountains•	Survival in the Ocean•	Survival in the Arctic and Antarctic•	Surviving the Desert•	More Survival Stories for Ones which don’t fit a category

    Sex: Avoided Subjects Discussed...

Henry Stanton was appalled at the shocking lack of information given to young people about sex and reproduction in his time. He felt this was a crime that needed to be fixed and so he wrote this book explaining sex for young and old. Ignorance of basic reproductive processes he felt led to experimentation that then led to sin, crime and prostitution. While this book is definitely not written in what I would call Plain English, contains some very questionable 'facts' about masturbation and menstruation and might seem very moralistic and dogmatic to our current society, he does hold out high ideas for all in affairs of self respect, love and marriage. If nothing else, this is a delightful peek into the thoughts of almost all people our very recent country's past(Summary by the reader, Phil Chenevert )
