The Bhagavad Gita is a 700-verse Hindu scripture embedded within the epic Mahabharata, depicting a dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Arjuna, facing his relatives in battle, experiences despair and a crisis of conscience. Krishna, his charioteer and an avatar of Vishnu, provides philosophical and spiritual guidance, addressing themes of duty (dharma), action (karma), devotion (bhakti), and knowledge (jnana). The Gita explores the nature of the self, the divine, and humanity's place in the world, offering paths to liberation and spiritual fulfillment.

In the vein of Quiet and The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth comes this illuminating look at what it means to be awkward—and how the same traits that make us socially anxious and cause embarrassing faux pas also provide the seeds for extraordinary success.
As humans, we all need to belong. While modern social life can make even the best of us feel gawky, for roughly one in five of us, navigating its challenges is consistently overwhelming—an ongoing maze without an exit. Often unable to grasp social cues or master the skills and grace necessary for smooth interaction, we feel out of sync with those around us. Though individuals may recognize their awkward disposition, they rarely understand why they are like this—which makes it hard for them to know how to adjust their behavior.
Psychologist and interpersonal relationship expert Ty Tashiro knows what it’s like to be awkward. Growing up, he could do math in his head and memorize the earned run averages of every National League starting pitcher. But he couldn’t pour liquids without spilling and habitually forgot to bring his glove to Little League games. In Awkward, he unpacks decades of research into human intelligence, neuroscience, personality, and sociology to help us better understand this widely shared trait. He explores its nature vs. nurture origins, considers how the awkward view the world, and delivers a welcome counterintuitive message: the same characteristics that make people socially clumsy can be harnessed to produce remarkable achievements.
Interweaving the latest research with personal tales and real world examples, Awkward offers reassurance and provides valuable insights into how we can embrace our personal quirks and unique talents to harness our awesome potential—and more comfortably navigate our complex world.

    The Expansion of the European...

The European Union (EU) stands as one of the most ambitious projects of regional integration in modern history. The concept of a unified Europe, born out of the devastation of World War II, has evolved from an economic community among six founding nations to a political and economic powerhouse with 27 member states. The expansion of the EU has been a gradual process, driven by the desire to promote peace, stability, and prosperity across the continent. This expansion has not only reshaped the political landscape of Europe but also influenced the global order in profound ways.

The early history of the EU was marked by the establishment of the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1957, aimed at fostering economic cooperation and reducing the likelihood of future conflicts. Over time, the EEC transformed into the European Union, encompassing broader goals such as political cooperation, human rights, and environmental standards. Each enlargement of the EU has brought new nations into this framework, solidifying the idea of a united Europe. The process of integrating new member states, however, has not been without its challenges. Issues of economic disparity, political alignment, and social integration have tested the limits of the union and sparked debates about the future direction of the EU.

The most significant expansion occurred in 2004, when ten countries, predominantly from Central and Eastern Europe, joined the EU in a historic enlargement. This expansion marked the end of the Cold War divide and brought former communist nations into the European fold. Yet, it also highlighted the complexities of integrating countries with differing political histories, economic conditions, and social structures. The subsequent expansions in 2007 and 2013 saw Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia join the EU, furthering the union’s reach into the Balkans.

A gripping tale of resilience and survival that offers hope to others who have experienced family violence and suffered at the hands of a sibling.A deeply personal and heart-breaking memoir that explores the troubled relationship between Mary Garden and her younger sister, Anna, who died in 2023 after a short illness. Mary unpacks her life of growing up in New Zealand in the 1950s and ’60s, before making Australia home. She reveals complex layers of intergenerational trauma, including the baggage of her eccentric, deeply flawed father and the secret her mother kept from all of them, revealed only after her death. Mary deals movingly with her sister’s long battle with mental illness and how she once saved Anna’s life. As she unravels these narratives, Mary touches on the guilt and shame familiar to anyone who has had to deal with secrets, violence and ‘madness’ in their family. And she shines a light on sibling abuse, the most common form of abuse in the context of family violence ‒ occurring up to five times as frequently as spousal or parental child abuse ‒ although it is often dismissed as ‘sibling rivalry’. It causes far-reaching, long-lasting harm.
