Synopsis

In Rodeo, B.M. Bower masterfully intertwines themes of tradition, ambition, and self-discovery against the vibrant backdrop of the American West. As the Fourth of July approaches, the Flying U Ranch prepares for a reunion, bringing together the legendary "Happy Family" of cowboys, now aged and changed by time. Among them is Claude "Kid" Bennett, son of the renowned Chip Bennett, who returns from college to find his childhood idols transformed and his place in the world uncertain. Disillusioned and yearning to prove himself, Kid embarks on a journey to Chicago to participate in a grand rodeo, aiming to carve out his own legacy. Along the way, he encounters challenges that test his mettle, including a spirited young woman named Dulcie Harlan, whose presence adds complexity to his quest. Bower's narrative captures the essence of a young man's struggle to reconcile the romanticized past with the realities of the present, offering readers a compelling tale of growth, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the West.

Step into the Most Bold and Imaginative "Biography" Ever Written.

Spanning three centuries and two genders, Virginia Woolf's Orlando is a dizzying, poetic journey through history and identity. The story begins in the Elizabethan era with Orlando, a young nobleman and aspiring poet who enjoys the favor of the Queen. After falling into a deep sleep that lasts days, Orlando awakens in the 18th century to find they have undergone a mysterious transformation: they are now a woman.

Unburdened by the constraints of time or biology, Orlando lives through the Enlightenment, the Victorian era, and into the "present" day of 1928. Throughout this incredible voyage, Woolf explores the fluidity of the human spirit, the art of writing, and the shifting roles of men and women in society.

Written as a "love letter" to Vita Sackville-West, Orlando is a cornerstone of queer literature and a daring departure from the traditional novel. It remains one of Woolf's most accessible and joyful works—a high-spirited blend of historical fiction, satire, and fantasy.

This is the story of Saint Brendan the Navigator, whose legendary quest to find the Isle of the Blessed is one of the most remarkable and enduring early Christian tales.

Among Irish saints, Brendan the Navigator is second only to Patrick. Founder of several monasteries, he most famously guided a group of monks on a dangerous journey into the unknown vastness of the ocean on a search for Paradise. Based on the medieval "Life of St Brendan," Morgan Llywelyn's imaginative retelling of the Christian legend of this most remarkable man is a lyrical and surprising feast for the mind and heart. It is a story of truth and transcendence, and inner strength and daily discipline, a story of love and longing, and a story of towering faith. And of course, miracles.

During the summer of 1816, Lord Byron invited the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and his wife-to-be Mary Godwin to spend some months at the Villa Diodati in Switzerland. These poetic rebels were attempting to escape society's disapproval of their radical lifestyles at home in England and to engage in a creative collaboration.

Amongst the group was young Dr. John Polidori, Byron's personal physician. As the creative and sexual tensions within the group simmered over a "wet, ungenial summer," Mary Shelley had the famous nightmarish vision that inspired her novel, Frankenstein.

It is well documented that Polidori was also moved to write The Vampyre. However, in this Gothic story, it his seductive night terrors that spur his creativity. Is this mere fiction, or are his vampiric visions a dark and fated fact?
