Beschreibung

Snowboard Gear Setup offers a comprehensive guide to optimizing your snowboarding experience through informed equipment choices. It emphasizes that selecting the right gear, especially snowboards, bindings, and boots, is crucial for comfort, safety, and performance on the slopes. The book delves into the technical aspects of snowboard construction, sizing guidelines based on rider attributes, and binding compatibility, ensuring riders understand how each component contributes to their overall riding experience. Proper boot fitting, a key focus, is highlighted as essential for preventing discomfort and injuries, supported by insights from boot fitters and medical professionals. This book uniquely blends practical advice with a data-driven approach, moving beyond subjective opinions to provide concrete criteria for evaluating gear options. It explores how seemingly small adjustments can significantly impact performance and enjoyment.

Did you know that early snowboarders initially adapted surfing and skateboarding equipment due to a lack of specialized knowledge? Now, advancements in materials science and biomechanics have revolutionized snowboard gear. The book progresses logically, starting with foundational concepts and moving towards practical applications, reinforced with real-world scenarios and troubleshooting tips.

The Golden Age of Offshore Yacht...

This bundle of two books tells of the life, designs and success of yacht designer and skipper Dick Carter from his own perspective and that of one of his crew, Sandy Weld. Not many 'amateur' yacht designers would dare to enter the first boat they had ever designed into the epic offshore Fastnet Race, let alone with the intention of winning it. But that is what Dick Carter did in 1964, beating all 151 other yachts, some sailed by the most notable sailors of the day. He repeated the feat 4 years later with another of his own designs (which also won the Admiral's Cup that year as top boat and top team), but by then he could certainly not be described as an 'amateur' yacht designer. His radical innovations created fast and comfortable boats which were much in demand in this, the golden age of offshore racing. They were commissioned by the top sailors and succeeded in winning the Admiral's Cup, Southern Cross Series, One Ton Cup, Two Ton Cup and many of the biggest races. Racing with Dick in these years was Sandy Weld who helped launch, tune and race the boats Dick skippered. Sandy's account depicts the intense competition of crews dedicated to winning and the camaraderie and enthusiasm of those who participate in this demanding sport. It is an appreciation of Dick Carter's designs and his skill as a skipper. But after just a decade at the top of his game, Dick Carter quit the world of sailing and moved on to other challenges. He hadn't been heard of for so long that sailors assumed he was dead. His surprise appearance at the funeral of Ted Hood gave rise to the suggestion that he wrote his autobiography. While his career as a yacht designer may have been brief, the impact of his innovations has lasted the test of time. Who today would think of an offshore yacht without internal halyards in the mast or that the rudder always had to be fixed to the keel? These concepts, and many more, were first introduced by Dick Carter.

Data Game: The Story of Liverpool FC's Analytics Revolution explores the lesser-known story of how Liverpool rose to greatness in the 21st century with the help of big data.
The Anfield institution is an industry leader in the field of data science, but little is known about how Liverpool's relationship with numbers began, and how the marriage of data and football helped to deliver wins on the pitch by impacting tactics and recruitment.
Upon their takeover, Fenway Sports Group set out to transform Liverpool into a data-driven organisation, but there is a story behind why that vision took around a decade to become a reality.
From errors in the transfer market, to suboptimal playing styles, to conflicting egos, Liverpool jumped many hurdles before achieving their ambitions under Jürgen Klopp, with the German surrounded by unsung heroes who shunned the limelight. This is the tale of how Liverpool gained an edge over their wealthier rivals by getting smart.

Today, millions of women and girls around the world enjoy running and entering races. It wasn't always so:

    ● In 1961, when Julia Chase edged to the start of a Connecticut 5-miler, officials tried to push her off the road.

    ● At the 1966 Boston Marathon, Roberta Gibb hid behind a forsythia bush, worried that police might arrest her.

    ● The next year at Boston, Kathrine Switzer was assaulted mid-race by a furious race organizer.

    ● In the mid-60s, Indianapolis high schooler Cheryl Bridges was told not to run anywhere near the boys' track team because she might "distract" them.

    ● When Charlotte Lettis signed up for the University of Massachusetts cross-country team in the fall of 1971, she was told to use the men's locker room.

First Ladies of Running tells the inspiring stories of these and other runners who refused to give up despite the cultural and sports barriers they faced. Legends such as Doris Brown, Francie Larrieu, Mary Decker, Jackie Hansen, Miki Gorman, and Grete Waitz are chronicled by Runner's World editor Amby Burfoot. Burfoot even runs the 1994 Marine Corps Marathon with Oprah Winfrey, whose successful finish opened the floodgates for other women runners.

A fascinating history celebrating Black players in Major League Baseball from the 1800s through today, with special insight into what the future may hold.

In Beyond Baseball's Color Barrier, Rocco Constantino chronicles the history of generations of ballplayers, showing how African Americans have influenced baseball from the 1800s to the present. He details how the color line was drawn, efforts made to erode it, and the progress towards Jackie Robinson's debut—including a pre-integration survey in which players unanimously promoted integration years before it actually happened. Personal accounts and colorful stories trace the exponential growth of diversity in the sport since integration, from a boom in participation in the 1970s to peak participation in the early 1990s, but also reveal the current downward trend in the number of African American players to percentages not seen since the 1960s.

Beyond Baseball's Color Barrier not only explores the stories of icons like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Satchel Paige but also considers contributions made by players like Vida Blue, Mudcat Grant, and Dwight Gooden. Exclusive interviews with former players and individuals involved in the game, including the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, add first-hand expert insight into the history of the topic and what the future holds.
