Sinopsis

At the far reaches of the Seelanth Peninsula, where the majesty of the sea, the vastness of the plains, and the ruggedness of the mountains intertwine, a storm of epic proportions was brewing. Three kingdoms, each with its peculiarities and ambitions, rose as the protagonists of a drama that would shake the foundations of this ancient land. Auralla, with its golden beaches and fearless sailors, stood near the shimmering sea. Ikonnen, in its endless expanse of plains, stretched out like a green blanket under the sky. Likhanen, in the cold and frozen mountains, maintained a natural fortress in its inaccessible heights.

The destinies of these kingdoms were intertwined by a ruthless struggle for power and territory. In Auralla, King Estuard led his nation with cunning and courage, backed by his loyal commander Kirk, his relentless legion chief Anton, his finest soldier Conan, and the fierce warrior Malcom. In Ikonnen, King Gael held onto his vast plains, with Commander Sven, the loyal Gerd, the brave Olav, and the intrepid Senen by his side. Finally, in Likhanen, King Bicor clung to his mountains, trusting in Commander Narses, the ingenious legion chief Klaus, the valiant Rocco, and the formidable warrior Karl.

The battle for Seelanth was looming, a battle that would be remembered in the songs of bards and the pages of historians as an epic of courage and sacrifice. In this world of intrigues, fleeting alliances, and dark betrayals, peace grew increasingly fragile, like a delicate web threatened to break at the slightest breeze of discord.

Thus, with the hearts of the three kingdoms beating in unison, we begin our journey through the War of the Three Kingdoms, where heroes and villains will rise, and the fate of Seelanth will be forged in the heat of battle. We will explore the origins of these tensions and the circumstances that led to this wild and deadly war.

“Are you okay?” A wave of cold sweeps over Alex. The silence on the end of the phone seems to last forever.

“It’s Dad,” her sister finally says. “He had a massive heart attack. He’s gone.”

When sisters Alex, Sam and Jess are called back to the family lake house in Summerville after the death of their beloved father, they learn that he was hiding a devastating secret.

Alex is the one who discovers the stash of love letters hidden away in the shed by the lake where they used to play as children during the long, hot summers. She adored her father. But she just has to know who wrote these notes, and she doesn’t want to be talked out of it by her husband or her sisters, who each have their own reasons for avoiding digging deeper. As everyone tries to protect their grieving mother from more trauma, and manage their own shock, tensions rise in the lake house. Even under one roof, sharing a room just as they used to each summer as children, the sisters have never felt so isolated from one another.

A chance encounter at a local grief counselling group leads Alex to make a shocking discovery about her father. With the true scale of their father’s deception revealed, everything Alex and her sisters thought they knew about him – and about their family life – is called into question. Alex knows that if she’s going to find out the truth she’s going to have to go it alone – and that means keeping some secrets herself.

As they each deal in their own way with the fallout from their father’s secret history, the three women’s lives begin to change in ways they could never have predicted. Can Alex hold onto the family she thought she had, and held so dear, if everything she ever knew was a lie?

In this panoramic tale of manifest destiny, Stephen Moran comes of age with the young country that he crosses on the Union Pacific, just as the railroad unites the continent. Propelled westward from his Brooklyn neighborhood and the killing fields of the Civil War to the Battle of Little Big Horn, he befriends Walt Whitman, becomes a bugler on President Lincoln’s funeral train, apprentices with frontier photographer William Henry Jackson, and stalks General George Custer. When he comes face-to-face with Crazy Horse, his life will be spared but his dreams haunted for the rest of his days.
By turns elegiac and comic, American Meteor is a novel of adventure, ideas, and mourning: a unique vision of America’s fabulous and murderous history.
