Synopsis

In the midst of a bustling writers' event, Mathew finds himself in an intriguing conundrum. His story, marked by an unfinished ending, has left his readers baffled and eager for closure. As lines form to decipher the elusive conclusion, a mysterious girl claims to hold the missing pieces.
As Mathew grapples with the pressure of providing a satisfying ending, his estranged wife, Lucy, re-enters his life. Her newfound appreciation for his work leaves Mathew puzzled. Meanwhile, a fan named Beck unveils a surprising twist: in the world of his own story, the characters have overshadowed the writer, and Mathew is left questioning his own significance.
This narrative delves into the complexities of creativity, recognition, and the blurred lines between fiction and reality, all while exploring the uncharted territory of the writer's own story.

In 1818, Jeannette Power, a young French woman moved to Sicily and fell in love with the Mediterranean Sea and the Argonauta Argo octopus, the weirdest octopus on Earth.

Amazing weird fact: The Argonaut octopus creates a delicate shell for itself which it uses to travel up and down in the water and as a safe place to raise its young.

At the time, though, the only way to study a marine animal was if it was dead on land. That wasn’t good enough. Jeannette wanted to study this creature alive. She had many questions: did it create its own shell, how did it reproduce, what did it eat, and did it know she was watching? She knew that careful observation was the only way to answer her questions.
Follow French scientist Jeannette Power on her quest for answers about one of the most mysterious marine animals on Earth.

Upon learning that the books with kids who look like her have been banned by her school district, Kanzi descends into fear and helplessness. But her classmates support her, and together—with their teacher’s help—they hatch a plan to hold a bake sale and use the proceeds to buy diverse books to donate to libraries. The event is a big success: the entire school participates, and the local TV station covers it in the evening news. Prodded by her classmates to read the poem she has written, Kanzi starts softly but finds her voice. “You have banned important books, but you can’t ban my words,” she reads. “Books are for everyone.” The crowd chants “No banned books! No banned books!,” and the next week, the ban is reversed. Aya Khalil appends a note about how The Arabic Quilt was briefly banned from the York, Pennsylvania school system, and the backmatter also includes a recipe for baklawa, the Egyptian pastry that Kanzi prepares for the bake sale.
