  The Khmer Empire--Historians describe Cambodia as the Khmer State or the Angkorian Empire (Khmer:) from the 9th century to the 15th century, when it was a Hindu/Buddhist empire in Southeast Asia.   The Siamese-- Siam was just a much different name for what's now referred to as Thailand. The Siamese are the people who live there, though they're never ever called as such any longer. 
  Thailand is a fascinating country, with its own culinary arts, culture, history, royalty, infrastructure, and influence on the world. To learn more about these “Thai” people before they were called Thai, when they were Siamese, is to learn about those people’s roots.

  The Tashkent-born Russian-American literary critic, editor, essayist, and journalist Vladislav Davidzon has been covering post-Soviet Ukraine for the past ten years, a tumultuous time for that country and the surrounding world. The 2014 "Revolution of Dignity" heralded a tremendous transformation of Ukrainian politics and society that has continued to ripple and reverberate throughout the world. 
   
   
   
  In late 2015, a year and a half after the 2014 Revolution swept away the presidency of the Moscow-leaning kleptocratic President Viktor Yanukovich, Davidzon and his wife founded a literary journal, The Odessa Review, focusing on newly emergent trends in film, literature, painting, design, and fashion.   The Egyptians viewed the stars, planets, and other celestial bodies as manifestations of divine power. Central to their astronomical system was the Sun, which they associated with the god Ra. Ra's journey across the sky each day symbolized the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The Sun’s movement was used to structure the day and marked important moments in the agricultural calendar, such as the flooding of the Nile. The Egyptians also closely tracked the movements of the Moon and stars, which helped them define the months and seasons. 
  The study of the stars held profound religious significance for the ancient Egyptians. They believed that the stars were the eyes of the gods, observing and guiding humanity. Certain constellations, such as Orion, were particularly important, representing Osiris, the god of the afterlife. The Egyptians’ knowledge of the stars was so advanced that it influenced the alignment of their monumental architecture. The Great Pyramid of Giza, for instance, is aligned with remarkable precision to the stars, showcasing their ability to map the heavens and incorporate that knowledge into their constructions.
