Beschreibung

Breaking Control Patterns explores the pervasive nature of control in our lives, particularly its links to codependency and addiction. It examines how controlling behaviors, whether overt manipulation or subtle emotional blackmail, stem from deep-seated needs and fears. Did you know that these behaviors are often rooted in societal norms, family dynamics, and individual experiences, creating cycles that are hard to break? The book uniquely integrates insights from addiction recovery and codependency treatment, highlighting how the need to control or be controlled can be a central issue. It progresses through three key sections: defining control patterns and their connections, exploring the psychological underpinnings like trauma and attachment styles, and providing practical strategies. This includes cognitive-behavioral techniques and mindfulness practices, offering actionable steps to build healthier boundaries and foster self-compassion. Ultimately, this self-help guide aims to shift the focus from managing symptoms to addressing the root causes of these issues. By understanding the interplay between control, addiction, and codependency, readers can achieve genuine freedom, improve their communication skills, and establish more balanced and fulfilling relationships. Case studies and personal narratives are used to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

Kids today can learn more from a five-minute YouTube video or AI chatbot than they can from a full day of lectures. So what then is our role as classroom teachers?

In this groundbreaking book, seasoned educator Kyle Wagner explains the new role of the teacher in the fourth industrial revolution. You will learn how to shift from being a deliverer of content, to a thoughtful designer and facilitator of student-centered learning experiences who gently guides from behind the scenes. Kyle, a veteran co-learning experience designer, former classroom teacher, and school leader, unpacks each of the twelve shifts required to build these student-centered environments. Chapters cover how to shift from a content-based to inquiry-based approach; develop relevant, interdisciplinary skills; cultivate meaningful student reflection; curate beautiful, real-world work; facilitate student-led discussion; and more.

Through stories from real student-centered classrooms around each shift, and anecdotes from the author's experience teaching and leading micro-academies, you will come away ready to unleash student creativity, build thoughtful inquirers, and develop self-directed learners within your own context.

What would you get if you mixed Edgar Allan Poe, Alfred Hitchcock and Stephen King? The answer might be something resembling Howard Phillips Lovecraft, an extremely influential poet and author who mixed science fiction, horror and fantasy into a subgenre known as “weird fiction.” Perhaps nothing encapsulates weird fiction like his creation of the monster Cthulhu, which has been used by other writers to spawn a fictional universe and mythology centered around Cthulhu.
There is no greater accolade for a writer than for their name to become an adjective. For example, any story that deals with a dystopian future is likely to be called “Orwellian” following the success of the novel 1984 by English writer George Orwell. But within the horror genre, Lovecraft’s work, filled with madness and brooding menace and set in a semi-fictional world of his own creation, gave rise to the use of the term “Lovecraftian” to describe similar works. Despite this accolade, however, Lovecraft achieved almost no commercial success and very little recognition during his lifetime. His output also seems disproportionately small compared to his current influence - he never wrote a full-length novel, and most of his fiction took the form of short stories published in various magazines. It was only after his death that his fiction was regarded as more significant than the bulk of horror fiction written in the 1920s and 1930s.

The origin of a saviour in the guise of a little child is traceable to Child-Horus, who brought new life to Egypt every year as the Messu of the inundation. This was Horus in his pre-solar and pre-human characters of the fish, the shoot of the papyrus, or the branch of the endless years. In a later stage the image of Horus on his papyrus represented the young god as solar cause in creation. But in the primitive phase it was a soul of life or of food ascending from the water in vegetation, as he who climbs the stalk, ranging from Child-Horus to the Polynesian hero, and to Jack ascending heavenward by means of his bean-stalk. –from “The Sign Language of Astronomical Mythology” It goes unappreciated by modern Egyptologists, but it is embraced by those who savor the concept of a “hidden history” of humanity, and those who approach all human knowledge from the perspective of the esoteric. Gerard Massey’s massive Ancient Egypt: The Light of the World–first published in 1907 and the crowning achievement of the self-taught scholar–redefines the roots of Christianity via Egypt, proposing that Egyptian mythology was the basis for Jewish and Christian beliefs.
