She knows it's the wrong thing to say the moment the words leave her mouth but she can't take it back. His fingers curl tightly in her hair, tugging roughly. "You don't have a choice, darling. The sooner you wrap your pretty little head around that, the happier we can be," he says reproachfully, as if she's the one being unreasonable. She sniffs and wipes the tears escaping her eyes with the back of her palm. "Ah, ah," he coos. "No more of that. Give me a smile, darling," he says, pushing her face up until she has no choice but to lose herself in those dark eyes once more. She musters up a wobbly smile, though tears continue to drip down her chin. "There we go," he murmurs, wiping her cheek with his palms. "Poor darling. It'll be okay. I'll take real good care of you. As long as you're a good girl," he adds. "You're a good girl, aren't you?" She nods, heart stuck in her throat, fear making her sweat even though she feels kind of cold. She doesn't like wearing too many layers to sleep. She wishes she had put on more than a baggy shirt and a pair of shorts now. Her tail curls around her body, trying to keep her warm, but it's not use. She hiccups and wipes her eyes. "You're so beautiful, Kitten," he says, wiping at the tears that are still dripping down her cheeks. "Poor baby," he coos like he's not the one who's causing her distress. "It's okay. There's no need to be upset. I'm not going to hurt you." She flinches at the lie, her cheeks still stinging from when he had slapped her literally minutes earlier. He's hurt her already and she has no doubt in her mind that he would continue to hurt her as long as she doesn't do exactly what he wants her to.
