Synopsis

Antonio Fogazzaro (1842-1911), a writer, poet, and essayist, was a major figure in Italian literature and culture. He was a multiple nominee for the Nobel Prize in Literature and a key interpreter of Modernism and an Italian approach to Romanticism. Although he was always a Catholic, his works often addressed controversial themes such as reincarnation and the destiny of souls, and he remained open to modern scientific theories. One of Antonio Fogazzaro's less-known but most interesting works, the short novel Pereat Rochus, which many sources consider the author's favorite work, was first published, in installments, in the Corriere di Roma in January 1886, two years later in the magazine Nuova Antologia, and then included the following year in the collection Fedele ed altri racconti. The protagonist is a young poet named Andrea, who finds himself in an abbey. Here he meets the old abbot, Don Rocco, and other characters. The story focuses on Andrea's internal conflicts, as he feels divided between art, religion, and earthly feelings. The title, which in Latin means "may Rocco perish", refers to a jocular phrase pronounced by one of the characters, but it can also be interpreted as a wish to overcome material obstacles and temptations to elevate oneself spiritually. The novel reflects themes dear to Fogazzaro, such as the conflict between faith and science, the search for a balance between spirit and matter, and the spiritual crisis of modern man. The style is characterized by elegant prose and an in-depth psychological analysis of the characters.

In Battle for Your Mind, we dig into the details of the process of transformation for the Jesus follower. Scripture reveals that since the Jesus follower is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, they have been given a renewed mind. As new creatures in Christ, the Jesus follower has a new capacity for thinking. They begin to think biblically. They begin to obey the teachings of Scripture. They find a need to reject and abandon the old ways of thinking and replace them with new ways of thinking. Hence, the value and importance of a new mind. The Scripture describes this process as a put-off and put-on exercise. As knowledge of the Scripture grows, discernment grows. This discernment that comes through the renewed mind guides the Jesus follower in knowing what to put off and what to put on.
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind (Ephesians 4:23 KJV).
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:2).
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him (Colossians 3:9-10).
The Jesus follower with their renewed mind is prepared to obey the first commandment by loving the Lord their God with all their mind.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength (Mark 12:30).

“God knows your breaking point. You simply don’t know your own strength.”

“Everything begins in the mind. If you want to see clearly, you need clear vision.”

Swami Satchidananda was the founder of Integral Yoga International. He taught the birthright of all is to realize the spiritual unity behind the diversity throughout creation and live harmoniously as members of “one universal family”. Swami was born into a loving spiritual family on December 22nd in 1914 during the month known as Margali, the Dawn of the Devas. From an early age, Swami (or Ramaswamy as he was known at the time) displayed many spiritual tendencies and a deep dedication to the truth.

Thus at the age of 28, he decided to devote himself full time to his spiritual practice. There then followed a period of seeking the wisdom and blessing of various saints and sages. Although a sannyasin Satchidananda was active in serving others and was happy to use modern technology to disseminate the teachings of yoga. Like many great Saints, Satchidananda believed all religions could lead seekers to the same goal. His interfaith motto was “Truth Is One, Paths Are Many.”

A knockout debut novel that tackles a haunting question: What do our jobs do to our souls?

Seth is a junior copywriter whose latest tagline just went viral. He’s the agency’s hottest new star, or at least he wants his coworker crush to think so. But while he’s busy drooling over his future corner office, the walls crumble around him.

When his job lets him go, he can’t let go of his job. Thankfully, one former colleague can’t let him go either: Robert “Moon” McCloone, a skeezy on-the-rise exec better suited to a frat house than a boardroom. Seth tries to forget Moon and rediscover his spiritual self; he studies Kabbalah with an Orthodox
rabbi by day while popping illegal prescription pills by night. But with each misstep, Seth strays further from salvation—though he might get there, if he could only get out of his own way.

In his debut novel, Ben Purkert incisively peels back the layers of the male ego, revealing what’s rotten and what might be redeemed. Brimming with wit, irreverence, and soul-searching, The Men Can’t Be Saved is a startlingly original examination of work, sex, addiction, religion, branding, and ourselves.
