This book addresses the fraught relationship between women and aggression, one troubled by age-old patriarchal forces that disparage women's ambition, assertion, and voice.
Told from a psychoanalytic perspective, the book details the sociocultural forces that infect a woman's intrapsychic dynamics and compel her to sacrifice her goals and dreams. Compelling examples are offered from current politics, the author's own struggles with aggression, and clinical work with female patients who successfully reclaimed their aggression. The book addresses the critical question of how a woman can ever succeed, through the presentation of the author's detailed and psychoanalytically informed interviews with six powerful and highly influential women. Each woman brings to life the story of her history, influences, and challenges to provide inspiration for others to reimagine their own "nastiness," as an innovative, vitalizing tool.
This book is distinguished by its unique blend of contemporary life, psychoanalytic practice, feminist theory, and gender studies, untold in any other forum or publication. It is essential for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, and all those interested in working with women in a therapeutic setting and understanding their challenges with aggression.

Robert Wedderburn (1762-1834/5) was one of the most charismatic, irascible, and radical intellectuals of the eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Atlantic world. Born to an enslaved woman and a slavemaster in Jamaica, and moving in the radical working-class circles of London, Wedderburn made his name as a fiery political writer and orator—before dying, forgotten, in poverty.

Among the few abolitionists bold enough to publicly call for the enslaved in the British West Indies to rise up and violently overthrow their colonial "masters," Wedderburn was also among the most outspoken and—amid an increasingly repressive British establishment—dangerous advocates for domestic political reform and working-class rights.

From award-winning scholar Ryan Hanley, this is the first full-length biography of a man increasingly recognized as central to Black radical political thought in the Revolutionary Atlantic. Tapping newly rediscovered sources, Hanley details Wedderburn's extraordinary public and private life, explores the central influence of enslaved women on his political ideas, and offers fresh analysis of his contributions to British political thought and activism.

In 2008, Celeste Mergens was working with an overcrowded orphanage on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, when she learned that menstruating girls sat on cardboard in their rooms for several days each month.

This set into motion a simple idea—combining a washable, long-lasting pad with taboo-breaking education—that became a catalyst for an unlikely global movement for equity.

Written in short, evocative chapters, The Power of Days tells the story of Mergens's quest to rally a global response to elevate menstrual health, increase universal access to menstrual supplies, shatter stigma through education, and advocate for global policy change. Raised in poverty by a mentally ill parent, Mergens learned early on that building the life she wanted would take equal parts determination and humility, traits that led her to create the kinds of inclusive conversations and solutions she is known for around the globe.

The challenges Mergens faced and the lessons she learned, personally and professionally, and the triumphs and resourcefulness of leaders all over the globe are illuminating to all who wish to make a difference and create a more equitable world.

This enhanced audio recording features an audio-exclusive Q&A between Days for Girls cofounders Celeste and Don Mergens.

This WWII history chronicles the exploits of an elite German spy unit and offers a rare look into the secret operations of Hitler's military. Directed by the German Army’s intelligence service, the Brandenburgers became legendary for their brutally efficient clandestine operations. Trained to be quick, mobile, and self-reliant and steeped in local customs and languages, they operated behind enemy lines around the world. Across the battlefronts of the Second World War—from Western Europe to Romania, Russia, Egypt, Afghanistan, and beyond—they seized bridges and other strategic targets; engaged in sabotage, espionage, and other daring missions; and often disregarding the rules of war in the process. Although the unit was dissolved in 1944, its tactics influenced special forces around the world both during the war and after.

We broke our new series on learning Italian down into different learning stages. Start with the "Lower Beginner" books followed by the "Beginner" and "Upper Beginner" books. Next, progress to the "Intermediate" series, then test and reinforce your knowledge with the "Conversations" series.
This audiobook is divided into units. While it provides different learning patterns and accommodates various needs, this audiobook focuses on helping you improve your ability to understand, speak, and memorise Italian.
In Unit 1 you will hear Italian decoded with each syllable spoken very slowly and clearly with repetition. Immediately before each sentence is spoken, you will hear the translation, so you will always understand what is being said.
Unit 2 focuses solely on increasing your listening ability, which will improve your abilities to engage in dialogue with a native Italian speaker. This chapter requires you to listen very carefully to nuances in the language.
By Unit 3 you will already notice progress in your abilities to speak and understand Italian. The spoken translation is followed by two repetitions in Italian at a completely natural speed. While you are learning to process naturally spoken Italian, Units 3 and 4 will help you memorise new vocabulary and full sentences.
In Unit 5 you can test yourself on how much you have learned. If you are having difficulties, we suggest you revisit the listening, speaking, or memorisation section of Units 1, 2 3 or 4, according to what you need more help with.
