When a night of jazz and dancing with the American ambassador's niece ends in tragedy, private detective Marjorie Swallow is thrust into a world of shady nightlife. She goes undercover as a dance hostess in the glamorous Harlequin nightclub in Soho, in a bid to untangle the mystery.  
But an encounter with the menacing Armstrong brothers puts her in deadly peril down by the Limehouse docks. Finally she discovers that some secrets lurk closer to home...
