  The adventures of Captain Midnight came to radio in 1938, originally sponsored by The Skelly Oil Company and later by Ovaltine. Our hero was Captain Jim “Red” Albright, a World War One U.S. Army pilot. His “Captain Midnight” code name was given to him by a general who sent him on a high-risk mission from which he returned precisely at the stroke of midnight. Albright was recruited by our government to head the Secret Squadron, an aviation-oriented paramilitary organization fighting sabotage and espionage during the period prior to the United States entering into World War Two. Captain Midnight and his Secret Squadron battled enemies including Ivan Shark, Baron von Karp, Admiral Himakito and von Schrecker. The wartime activities were usually outside the continental United States, with adventures in Europe, South America, the Pacific and Asia. Heard in 15-minute installments, Captain Midnight had an audience into the millions. Radio premiums offered by the series included decoders, used by listeners to decipher encrypted messages previewing the next day’s episode.   To continue the boxing ring metaphor to a silly (but possibly accurate) degree, the other two corners are culture and experience, the canvas is time and I'm on the ropes of conscience.
  
  For Cathy is stuck as a misfit. Born in the south, she lives in the north. from a middle class home, she is working class by poverty and experience. She knows what it's like to be homeless, and what it's like to pick a dirty penny off the pavement and be happy to have it, and she also know the correct way to address a duchess, and whether to put the milk in first. She doesn't fit in anywhere - except at poetry events, where you can't know whether the person next to you is a convicted felon, a linguistics professor, or both.

  William Butler Yeats was born in Sandymount in County Dublin, Ireland on 13th June 1865. 
   
  His early years moved between Ireland and England. By his mid-teens he was writing but those works were described as ‘entirely Un-Irish’.  With Ernest Rhys he founded the Rhymers Club. Based at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese in Fleet Street it’s best described as a drinking club for performing poets.  Yeats later cited them as ‘The Tragic Generation’.  By now Yeats was writing and publishing poetry and stories that were profoundly based in Irish folklore.   
   
  Yeats is perhaps best described as Ireland’s national poet in addition to being one of the major twentieth-century literary figures of the English tongue. He represents the ‘Romantic poet of modernism,’ with an extraordinary style created from the outward emphasis on the expression of emotions and the extensive use of symbolism, imagery and allusions.  
   
  In 1923 his fame was brought to an even wider audience when he received the Nobel Prize in Literature.  
   
  His personal life was driven by his many relationships in love and by his great interest in oriental mysticism and occultism.  Yeats also wrote prose and drama and, as an ardent Nationalist, established himself as a spokesman of the Irish cause and served as an Irish senator for two terms.  
   
  W B Yeats died at the Hôtel Idéal Séjour, in Menton, France, on 28th January 1939.  He was 73. 
   
  In modern times his contribution to literary modernism and to Irish nationalism remains incontestable.  His sumptuous poetry elegantly envelopes the reader in a world very few can articulate but all know well.  A legacy for everyone
