Synopsis

'These were the books that taught me how to read' Anthony Horowitz.
The much-loved classic series of Ant and Bee books is designed for shared reading fun!
First published in 1950, Ant and Bee were in print for over 40 years. These new editions feature revised text and illustrations by original Ant and Bee creator Angela Banner. The adorably small format is perfect for little hands.
In More Ant and Bee, early readers can now progress to words containing four letters. Ant and Bee teach children to read via word recognition and encourage story sharing with siblings and parents. Grown-ups read the black words, but the shorter, simpler red words are for young children to call out. These books are for sharing, building confidence in early readers and most of all enjoying! Perfect for young children aged 3 and up. Parents and grandparents who grew up with Ant and Bee will love sharing this nostalgic experience from the same era as Ladybird Read it Yourself.

“A delightful tale” of sugary, sticky mayhem at America’s biggest state fair! (Abilene Reporter-News)   At last! It’s time for the annual Texas State Fair, and Jake knows exactly what he wants to do first. He passes up all the other booths to buy his favorite treat—a cone of sweet, fluffy, puffy cotton candy. Little does Jake know that his choice of sugary snack—and an unfortunate mechanical failure—will wreak havoc on the nation’s biggest state fair. As Jake wanders through the exhibits and attractions, he trails a sticky tail of cotton candy in his wake. Soon the candy has swaddled the livestock, tripped up the fair queen, and even festooned Big Tex with a pink tutu! It truly is a cotton candy catastrophe—until Jake has a brilliant idea to save the day. Young readers will crack up at Jake’s comic misadventure, set among landmarks like the Cotton Bowl and the Texas Star, America’s tallest Ferris wheel.

This moving, coming-of-age story follows a young white girl who overcomes family prejudice and cultural differences when she befriends a black girl in a small working-class town Twelve-year-old Cassie narrates the dramatic events that unfold when Jemmie, an African-American girl, and her family move in next door. Despite their parents’ deeply held prejudice against each other’s family—exemplified by the fence Cassie’s father builds between their two houses—the girls find they share more similarities than differences. Mutual interests in reading and running draw them together, and their wariness of each other disappears. But when their parents find out about the burgeoning friendship, each girl is forbidden to see the other. A family crisis and celebration provide opportunities for the families to reach an understanding.   Author Adrian Fogelin addresses the complex issues of bigotry and tolerance with sensitivity and intelligence. Readers will find her story of how two adolescent girls, through their own example, teach racial tolerance to the adults in a small Florida town powerful and compelling.
