Synopsis

A fool assumes his allies are immune to treason’s seductionThree years after the first Ossurian War, the Erobian Alliance begins to fracture when one of its most powerful members commits baffling acts of dissention. In an attempt to diffuse a precarious hostage situation, the Torian High General turns to his most effective tool: the prominent Earthling Brandon Foss. Brandon is reluctantly thrust into a high stakes game of interstellar diplomacy which tests his gamesmanship as well as his battle skills in an effort to prevent an all-out war between three star systems. But he may already be too late.Unfortunately, far-off star systems aren’t the only place where the flames of discord are kindled. The twin planets of Tora enter into a decisive struggle as Belle-ub, the red Sheen leader who has usurped control of Amulen, shows his true colors in an attempt to take over Banor as well. Few see him for the threat he actually is. A violent struggle between the two Sheen factions ensues, which inadvertently entangles Derek—a man only trying to return to his hippie roots—who must now face his own defining test of character. All the while, something mysterious begins happening to the Torian humans. Something that might even explain much of the burgeoning strife in the Erobian Sphere. Consequently, their list of enemies begins to grow. It’s a shame the only ones who don’t seem to know about it are the humans…

Above the care home’s doorbell hung a small plaque, which read: ‘ONLY FOR PRESSING MATTERS’.
“Well that makes sense,” said Alice.
“It’s about the only thing that does in this place,” quipped the Mayor of Banbury with uncharacteristic sarcasm.
Alice is torn between staying at home to care for her sick father and moving to London to study at college. So to be catapulted back to a twisted Wonderland is the last thing she expects. Or needs. Now in her late teens, Alice is smarter and savvier this time around, which is just as well, as Wonderland bears little resemblance to its former self. Animals are forbidden to talk, the townsfolk live in fear of a tyrant and the weather’s all mixed up. Characters and events appear to be straight out of the dark origins of our favourite nursery rhymes. Could a Jabberwocky be behind it all? One thing hasn’t changed; Alice’s curiosity and attitude might just be the death of her if she can’t find her way back.
Propelled forward by a tapestry of gritty wordplay and the sinister backstories of our favourite nursery rhymes, DJ Stoneham’s debut fantasy novel will thrill younger and older adults alike.
“A brilliant and amusing reinvention.” Kirkus Reviews
“Stoneham imbues his prose with a wit and poetry … an ideal fantasy for Carroll fans.” blueink
“Fantastical wonders and head-over-heels adventures abound … sentences are rhythmic, at times even poetic and musical.” Foreword Clarion

Quarantined Species by J. F. Bone - The Venusian horgels were cute, clever, intelligent. They made perfect pets. They were lovable. – But that was the big trouble. They were much, much too lovable!
"Did you ever own a Thompson asked. Hе leaned forward, a small gray man in his late sixties, and peered at his visitor through old fashioned bifocals across the breadth of desk which separated them. The young man standing before the desk fidgeted impatiently as Thompson looked down at the interview card which read "Edward Farnsworth,–Agent, Worldwide Shows", and scratched the ears of the big Siamese cat sitting on his lap. The cat looked up with incurious blue eyes, regarded Farnsworth with a peculiarly dispassionate starе. stretched, yawned, and closed 80 his eyes again. It was perfectly apparent that the tall swarthy visitor was a matter of complete disinterest. "Now take Cato, here," Thompson continued. "He's a fine specimen of a cat. Have you owned anything like him?"
"Once," Farnsworth said. "When I went to Venus. But I don't see what this has to do with my business with you. All I want is a simple answer. Do or do I not get permission to import a pair of Venusian horgels?"
"You do not," Thompson said succinctly.
"This makes the fourth time," Farnsworth sighed. "So I'll have to go to higher authority, I suppose."
"There is no higher authority, son. This is the end of the line."
