Beschreibung

In "The Fairy Books of All Colours - Complete Series: Books 1-12 (Illustrated Edition)," Andrew Lang presents a remarkable compilation of fairy tales that transcend cultural boundaries, deftly interweaving folklore, mythology, and moral lessons within vividly illustrated pages. Written during the vibrant late 19th and early 20th centuries, Lang's works reflect not only the romantic revival of interest in folk tales but also the emergent scholarly enthusiasm for collecting and preserving oral traditions. Each volume showcases Lang's eloquent prose and nuanced understanding of narrative structure, inviting readers into a whimsical world populated by enchantment and peril, where ordinary lives are often transformed by the extraordinary. From the enchanting color palette of the covers to the meticulously selected tales, the series is as much a visual delight as it is a literary one. Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was a well-respected Scottish poet, novelist, and anthropologist who famously advocated for the importance of folk narratives in understanding cultural identities. His extensive travels and academic pursuits enabled him to gather stories from various cultures, merging his love for literature with a passion for anthropology. Lang'Äôs own experiences with the oral traditions of different peoples provided a robust foundation for his fairy tales, aiming to preserve these narratives for generations to come. This complete illustrated edition serves as an essential collection for enthusiasts of folklore and fairy tales, appealing to both adults and children alike. It invites readers to explore a treasure trove of enchanting narratives that are at once entertaining and enlightening. Perfect for educators, bibliophiles, and families, Lang's work encourages the appreciation of the rich tapestry of human imagination, bridging gaps between generations with timeless stories.

Megan is a 13-year-old teenage girl, who realises that she has psychic powers that others do not have. At first, she tried to talk to her mother about them, but with disastrous consequences, so she learned to keep quiet about them.
However, some people do offer to help and an animal showed a special friendship, but they were not `alive` in the normal sense of the word. They had passed on.
Megan has three such friends: Wacinhinsha, her Spirit Guide, who had been Sioux in his last life on Earth; her maternal grandfather, Gramps and a huge Siberian tiger called Grrr.
Wacinhinsha is extremely knowledgeable in all things spiritual, psychic and paranormal; her grandfather is a novice `dead person` and Grrr can only speak Tiger, as one might imagine and most of that, of course is unintelligible to humans.
In `Megan Goes on Holiday`, the family goes on holiday abroad, taking Megan for the first time. She becomes besotted with the place. On her return home, she makes a bit of a fool of herself by pretending to be what she is not and showing off. However, her mother and a few others bring her back to reality, and Wacinhinsha gives her an explanation for her recent infatuation with her holiday destination.

"The Happy Prince" is one of Oscar Wilde’s most beloved and poignant fairy tales, blending rich symbolism with a heartfelt narrative about compassion, sacrifice, and love. Set high above a city, the story follows a gilded statue—the Happy Prince—who once lived in luxury but now sees the suffering of the poor from his lofty perch. With the help of a kind-hearted Swallow, the Prince gives away all he has to bring joy and relief to the needy below.
As the Swallow delays his migration to Egypt to carry out the Prince’s wishes, both characters learn the profound value of generosity and selflessness. Through poetic prose and moral depth, Wilde delivers a timeless reflection on true nobility—not of birth or wealth, but of spirit.
Perfect for listeners of all ages, this touching parable continues to resonate as a tale of emotional truth and quiet heroism.
