Synopsis

In "Hannibal's Daughter," Andrew Haggard masterfully intertwines historical narrative and imaginative fiction, offering a unique lens through which to explore the complex legacy of one of antiquity's most notorious figures, Hannibal Barca. Set against the backdrop of the Second Punic War, the novel delves into the personal and political struggles of Hannibal's daughter, exploring themes of identity, loyalty, and the burdens of familial legacy. Haggard's lyrical prose vividly evokes the lush landscapes of ancient Carthage and Rome, while his meticulous research provides an authentic feel for the historical context, engaging readers on both intellectual and emotional levels. Andrew Haggard, a passionate historian and writer, draws on his deep knowledge of classical studies and his admiration for the resilience of marginalized voices in history. His exploration of unrecorded narratives and complex characters is largely inspired by his background in ancient history and literature, prompting him to resurrect these compelling stories of strength and survival. Haggard's academic journey informs his portrayal of the often-overlooked women of history, capturing their experiences in a world shaped by war and patriarchal structures. "Hannibal's Daughter" is a must-read for fans of historical fiction and those seeking an immersive experience in the life of a woman struggling to carve her identity amid the shadows of her father's legendary conquests. Haggard's nuanced storytelling not only entertains but also invites readers to reflect on the intersections of history and personal experience, making it a poignant addition to any literary collection.

    Warning: Foul-mouthed cat ahead
Prof Croft here and, yes, I trapped a murderous succubus in a kitten’s body and made her my pet. The alternative was to behead her, and as wizards go, I’m just not that callous.
Do you think Tabitha shows any appreciation? Two years old now, her speech has grown along with her girth, and when not insulting me, she’s plotting ways to devour my soul.
But that’s the least of my problems. An early winter storm has plunged our unheated apartment to near freezing, and I’m too cash-strapped to afford a chimney sweep. So when a strange woman appears, asking me to investigate an attack at an old smallpox hospital, I accept the case along with her vague offer of compensation.
And If I can involve Tabitha, who knows? Maybe we’ll finally start bonding.
Sure, and maybe Hell will host the next Winter Games.
Croft & Tabby is a spinoff of the popular Prof Croft series, set before the main books. If you like snarky cats, fledgling mages, and supernatural investigations, you'll love Croft & Tabby!

Andrew Lang (1844–1912) in collaboration with his wife Leonora Blanche Alleyne (1851-1933) published The Blue Fairy Book in 1889 and it was to become the first of a series of twenty five collections of fantastical tales from around the world, ending with “The Strange Story Book” published in 1923.
In this first collection we find many of the traditional favourites from the “Fairy Tale” world, including amongst others “Goldilocks”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”, Tom Thumb" “Rumpelstiltskin” and “Jack the Giant Killer”. While many of these have some vestige of the narrative we may be accustomed to through many sanitised adaptations, there are many surprises!
The telling of these stories in the “Blue Fairy Book” are by no means the cosy bedtime stories we might expect. You will search in vain for the three friendly bears in “Goldilocks”, or the accommodating dwarves in” Snow-white”. There is no attempt to soften the edges or the expunge the blood thirsty fates that befall may of the unfortunate characters.
Head Stories Audio presents " The Blue Fairy Book", narrated by Simon Hester. With original music.
