Beschreibung

Economic Migration Effects explores the driving forces behind global mobility, asserting that economic factors are paramount in understanding migration patterns. The book examines how individuals respond to economic incentives, such as wage levels and unemployment rates, in their decisions to migrate. It highlights the 'push and pull' factors influencing these choices and analyzes their effects on both sending and receiving economies. Intriguingly, the book reveals that globalization and technological advancements have reshaped migration's scale and scope, while remittances sent home by migrants can significantly impact developing economies.

The book adopts a systematic approach, starting with core migration theories like neoclassical economics and dual labor market theory. It progresses to analyzing the economic impacts of migration on labor markets, economic growth, and public finances using financial analyses and labor market studies. A key feature is its integration of micro-level decision-making with macro-level economic analysis, offering a comprehensive view of how individual choices shape broader migration trends.

The book concludes by exploring the political science aspect of policy implications, offering evidence-based recommendations for managing migration flows to benefit migrants and host communities. It emphasizes the importance of understanding economic incentives to predict and manage migration effectively, making it a valuable resource for students, researchers, policymakers, and anyone interested in the economics of migration.

In 1961 John F. Kennedy pledged to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade. Nine years later, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. Ten years later, Richard Nixon echoed this pledge by declaring a "war" on cancer. More than thirty years later, however, cancer remains one of the largest causes of death worldwide, with around one in three developing the disease. Curing cancer is not "rocket science," but the question is, why has cancer proved to be harder to tackle than the moon landings turned out to be?

Cancer research is a major economic activity. There are constant improvements in treatment techniques that result in better cure rates and increased quality and quantity of life for those with the disease, yet stories of breakthroughs in a cure for cancer are often in the media.

In this Very Short Introduction Nick James, founder of the CancerHelp UK website, examines the trends in diagnosis and treatment of the disease, as well as its economic consequences. Asking what cancer is and what causes it, he considers issues surrounding expensive drug development, what can be done to reduce the risk of developing cancer, and the use of complementary and alternative therapies.

“Fromm crossed the boundaries of traditional disciplines to expound his view on the alienation of man in an increasingly technological world.” —Newsweek Erich Fromm’s basic idea was to look at the individual as a social being, and to look at society as an ensemble of many individuals who have not only mutual ideas and convictions based on a common practice of life, but also a shared psychic structure. With his concept of “social character,” Fromm created a new interdisciplinary thinking presented in this compendium. The Erich Fromm Reader exhibits the true genius of an original thinker in seeing the connections between overlapping knowledge from many different fields. Here, interdisciplinarity is not only a lip service but the impact of Erich Fromm’s unique social psychological notion.

My career was being trained as and working as an Engineer mostly for Fortune 100 companies.
In parallel with that I’ve also been working on spiritual enlightenment and developing my paranormal abilities for the last fifty years.
This unusual combination of skills has led me to my passion of writing about the paranormal and many “out of the box” concepts and topics. I’ve actually written twelve books about the paranormal based on my experiences and research into these topics.
One topic which has always fascinated me has been how many paranormal experiences are usually interpreted by mental health professionals as delusional and mentally ill behaviors.
My thinking is that most people have spiritual and paranormal abilities and these cause experiences which can overwhelm some people to make them fit the diagnosis of them having mental illnesses.
Certainly there are a lot of legitimate mental illnesses which cause the need for treatments by mental health professionals.
But what happens when persons having these experiences may be normal and stable in their other behaviors but these experiences are so far beyond the norms of society that others think they are “crazy” and therefore treat them as such?
I’ve heard and read a number of stories over the years where I wonder if they were real experiences which might have just caused the person who lived them to have a nervous breakdown.
This book is my effort to help people understand the interfaces of real paranormal experiences and mental illness and how to tell which is which.
Also, what additional therapies can be used to help people who may be overwhelmed by these experiences?
