Beschreibung

Team Crisis Win explores how effective team dynamics during industrial accidents can drastically improve outcomes. It argues that a coordinated, culturally prepared team is more critical than individual expertise or technology. Drawing from safety board reports like those of the NTSB and CSB, the book analyzes communication, leadership, and decision-making in high-stress events. Interestingly, the book highlights that "success" isn't always about preventing the accident, but mitigating its consequences effectively, showcasing the importance of robust emergency management.

The book dissects successful crisis response teams, emphasizing the pivotal role of communication and organizational culture. It traces the evolution of industrial safety, revealing how human factors have gained prominence in accident response. Team Crisis Win progresses in three parts: introducing team dynamics, analyzing case studies of major industrial accidents, and synthesizing lessons into a framework for building high-performance crisis response teams. This approach provides actionable insights for business management, offering strategies to develop resilient and responsive teams.

Sunset, 8 June 1982, East Falkland. Eight specially trained Royal Marines infiltrate Goat Ridge, a long rocky hilltop between Mount Harriet and Two Sisters which are occupied by a battalion of 600 Argentine infantry. Their daring mission was to hide out in hostile territory, reconnoiter the Argentine position and then report back. From their hiding place just metres away from the enemy, they note and sketch the Argentine positions, then withdraw as stealthily as they had come. Their daring patrol provides essential intelligence that guided the British assault which overwhelmed the Argentine defences two days later. This was just one example of the missions undertaken by the Royal Marines Mountain and Arctic Warfare Cadre during the Falklands War, all of which are described in graphic detail in Rod Boswell's eyewitness account. Using his own recollections and those of his comrades, he describes their operations in the Falklands - the observation posts set up in the no man's land between San Carlos and Port Stanley, their role in the raid at Top Malo House, and the reconnaissance patrols they carried out close to the Argentine lines during the conflict. This celebrated first-hand account gives a fascinating insight into the operational skills of a small, specially trained unit and shows the important contribution it made to the success of the British advance. It also records the entire experience of the Falklands War from their point of view - the long voyage south through the Atlantic, the landings, the advance and the liberation of Stanley. For fans of Goose Green, Fighting for Queen and Country and First into Action.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice.
Humanity stands at a pivotal moment. For centuries, conflict, inequality, and environmental collapse have defined the systems we rely on. Yet the knowledge, technology, and creativity to evolve beyond these crises already exist. The Great Reorganisation: Evolving Beyond Conflict to Building a Living Future presents a bold, integrative vision for the transformation of civilisation.
This book explores how education, culture, governance, technology, and economy can be realigned to serve life itself. It envisions a world where militaries and conflicts are replaced by global cooperative competitions, where open-source innovation accelerates progress, and where economies measure wealth not in profit but in well-being, equity, and environmental health. Through principles of regenerative design, the book demonstrates how cities, agriculture, energy systems, and finance can operate in harmony with natural ecosystems rather than against them.
At its core, The Great Reorganisation emphasises consciousness. Individual and collective awareness are presented as the foundation of planetary intelligence, enabling humanity to respond to crises with foresight, empathy, and creativity. From cultivating inner resilience to fostering global collaboration, the book provides practical frameworks for integrating mindfulness, ethics, and innovation into every aspect of society.
This work is both a call and a guide: a call to reimagine what is possible, and a guide to implementing the systems, practices, and cultural shifts needed to bring that possibility to life. It offers readers the tools to participate actively in shaping a sustainable, equitable, and vibrant civilisation.

Wandile Sihlobo and Johann Kirsten chose to write The Uncomfortable Truth about South Africa's Agriculture in a candid, direct and unfiltered tone, not out of disregard, but with the hope of stirring South African agricultural stakeholders from inertia that may have taken hold over time.
One clear example of inertia is the endless policy discussions. When the government proposes policy positions – either good or bad – time is spent discussing these policies instead of anything substantive being done. The divisions amongst South African farmer organisations is the core issue behind the interminable conversations and this results in a 'performance of productivity' among participants in these meetings, creating an impression of progress simply because discussions are taking place.
While politicians and farmer representatives debate, farmers suffer, the unemployed languish, and small towns crumble. Poor roads and rising costs choke market access, while collapsing municipalities pile pressure on agribusinesses.
Things don't have to be this way, and the South African agricultural sector still has great potential to grow, increase employment, and revitalise the rural economy. This book will empower the reader with a clearer understanding of the agricultural constraints and how to overcome them and mobilise the much-needed sectorial focus to implementation.
While the contents may be uncomfortable for some, this book is intended to ignite an urgent call for decisive policy and programme implementation and to demand stronger collaboration among social partners.

Transformative Experience by L.A. Paul challenges the foundations of how we make life's biggest decisions. From becoming a parent to changing careers—or even becoming a vampire in a thought experiment—some choices don’t just alter your circumstances; they change you. Paul introduces the concept of transformative experiences—decisions that are both epistemically transformative (you can’t know what they’re like until you live them) and personally transformative (they change your core values, preferences, or identity).

Traditional models of rational decision-making assume we can evaluate outcomes based on what we currently value. But what happens when the experience itself reshapes those values? If you can't imagine what the future will feel like, or if your future self values different things, how can you make a rational choice now?

Blending vivid examples, from parenthood to philosophical thought experiments, Paul explores the limits of foresight, the nature of self, and how we might embrace decision-making not as prediction—but as discovery. Transformative Experience is a groundbreaking work that forces us to rethink autonomy, authenticity, and the very meaning of rational choice.

The legendary Scottish king Máel Coluim III, also known as 'Malcolm Canmore', is often held to epitomise Scotland's 'ancient Gaelic kings'. But Máel Coluim and his dynasty were in fact newcomers, and their legitimacy and status were far from secure at the beginning of his rule. Máel Coluim's long reign from 1058 until 1093 coincided with the Norman Conquest of England, a revolutionary event that presented great opportunities and terrible dangers. Although his interventions in post-Conquest England eventually cost him his life, the book argues that they were crucial to his success as both king and dynasty-builder, creating internal stability and facilitating the takeover of Strathclyde and Lothian. As a result, Máel Coluim left to his successors a territory that stretched far to the south of the kingship's heartland north of the Forth, similar to the Scotland we know today.
The book explores the wider political and cultural world in which Máel Coluim lived, guiding the reader through the pitfalls and possibilities offered by the sources that mediate access to that world. Our reliance on so few texts means that the eleventh century poses problems that historians of later eras can avoid. Nevertheless Scotland in Máel Coluim's time generated unprecedented levels of attention abroad and more vernacular literary output than at any time prior to the Stewart era.
