It is a term often used to describe political movements or leaders who claim to represent "the people" against a corrupt or out-of-touch elite. The central tenet of populism lies in its rhetoric, which typically divides society into two antagonistic groups: the virtuous, ordinary people and the corrupt, self-serving elite.

  While we can all recall images of Martin Luther King Jr. giving his "I Have a Dream" speech in front of a massive crowd at Lincoln Memorial, few of us remember the man who organized this watershed nonviolent protest in eight short weeks: Bayard Rustin. 
   
   
   
  This was far from Rustin's first foray into the fight for civil rights. As a world-traveling pacifist, he brought Gandhi's protest techniques to the forefront of US civil rights demonstrations, helped build the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, led the fight for economic justice, and played a deeply influential role in the life of Dr. King by helping to mold him into an international symbol of nonviolent resistance. Rustin's legacy touches many areas of contemporary life—from civil resistance to violent uprisings, democracy to socialism, and criminal justice reform to war resistance. 
   
   
   
  Despite these achievements, Rustin was often relegated to the background. He was silenced, threatened, arrested, beaten, imprisoned, and fired from important leadership positions, largely because he was an openly gay man in a fiercely homophobic era. This volume draws a full picture of Bayard Rustin: a gay, pacifist, socialist political radical who changed the course of US history and set a precedent for future civil rights activism, from LGBTQ+ Pride to Black Lives Matter.

  The creator was an American humanist, communist, history specialist and Skillet Africanist social equality lobbyist. Brought into the world in Extraordinary Barrington, Massachusetts, he experienced childhood in a somewhat lenient and coordinated local area, and subsequent to finishing graduate work at the College of Berlin and Harvard, where he was the main African American to procure a doctorate, he turned into a teacher of history, human science, and financial matters at Atlanta College. He was one of the organizers behind the Public Relationship for the Progression of Minorities Individuals (NAACP) in 1909. 
  Earlier,he had ascended to public unmistakable quality as a head of the Niagara Development, a gathering of African-American activists who needed equivalent freedoms for blacks. He and his allies went against the Atlanta split the difference, an arrangement created by Booker T. Washington which given that Southern blacks would work and submit to white political rule, while Southern whites ensured that blacks would get fundamental instructive and financial open doors. All things being equal, he demanded full social liberties and expanded political portrayal, which he trusted would be achieved by the African-American scholarly first class. He alluded to this gathering as the Skilled 10th, an idea under the umbrella of racial inspire, and accepted that African Americans required the opportunity for high level training to foster their initiative.
