Beschreibung

"Ice Age Hunters" explores the world of formidable predators that dominated the Pleistocene epoch, offering insights into their lives and eventual extinction. The book examines iconic creatures like the saber-toothed cat, dire wolf, and short-faced bear, detailing their anatomical adaptations and hunting strategies. One intriguing aspect is the role of climate change in shaping their existence; for instance, shifts in temperature and prey availability significantly impacted predator-prey dynamics. Furthermore, the book highlights the ecological pressures that contributed to megafauna extinctions, offering valuable lessons for modern conservation efforts. The book reconstructs Ice Age ecosystems by integrating fossil evidence, paleontological research, and geological data. It progresses by first introducing the major predator species, then focusing on the environments they inhabited, and finally tackling the extinction event. This approach allows readers to understand how climate, habitat, and competition influenced these predators. One key finding is the analysis of tooth marks on bones, which helps reconstruct predator behavior and prey selection. By connecting paleontology, ecology, and climate science, "Ice Age Hunters" provides a comprehensive and accessible view of prehistoric life.

Ephesians is the tenth book of the New Testament. Its authorship has traditionally been attributed to Paul the Apostle but starting in 1792, this has been challenged as Deutero-Pauline, that is, pseudepigrapha written in Paul's name by a later author strongly influenced by Paul's thought, probably "by a loyal disciple to sum up Paul's teaching and to apply it to a new situation fifteen to twenty-five years after the Apostle's death".

    Whose Language Is English?

Whose language is English? Although we often think of it as native to one place, today there are many Englishes. About seventy-five countries are now using English as their official or first language, and the number of people speaking it around the world continues to rise. But the makeup of the English-speaking population is changing. The proportion of speakers for whom English is a first language is decreasing, due to the explosion in popularity of English as a second language.

In this ambitious book, Jieun Kiaer explores the lives of English words in the twenty-first century, when the creation and use of language has become an increasingly dynamic, interactive, and diverse process in which ordinary people have taken leading roles—offering such coinages as "flexitarian," "MeToo," "glow up," and "shitizen" to "No sabo kids" and beyond. As English language grows ever more diverse, Kiaer believes, we need a paradigm shift. We must acknowledge that all varieties of English are languages in their own right when they are used by a community of speakers. English is a language that belongs to everyone.

Considering the effects of social media, the Covid-19 pandemic, virtual work, globalization, and artificial intelligence, Kiaer paints a compelling portrait of a rapidly evolving language characterized by creativity and democratization.

From 1922 till 1991, the Soviet Union, officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), was a socialist state that covered Europe and Asia. It was in theory a federal union of different sovereign republics; but, till its closing years, its administration and economy were highly centralized. The Bolsheviks, led by Vladimir Lenin, ousted the Provisional Federal government that had formerly toppled the Russian Empire's Romanov family in the October Revolution of 1917, bring to life the Soviet Union. They established the Russian Soviet Republic, the world's first socialist state with a constitution. Stress between the Bolshevik Red Army and some anti-Bolshevik forces across the previous Empire emerged into a civil war, with the White Guard being the most effective faction. The White Horror was a period of violent anti-communist repression by the White Defend Against the Bolsheviks and believed worker and peasant Bolsheviks. Through Red Horror, the Red Army extended and helped regional Bolsheviks in acquiring power, building soviets, and penalizing political challengers and defiant peasants. By 1922, the power balance had moved, and the Bolsheviks had thrived, unifying the Russian, Transcaucasian, Ukrainian, and Byelorussian republics to form the Soviet Union. After the civil war ended, Lenin's administration carried out The New Economic Policy, which led to a partial return of the free enterprise and personal property, and also a period of financial healing.Joseph Stalin rose to power after Lenin's death in the year 1924. Within the Communist Party, Stalin got rid of any political resistance to his rule and developed a command economy. As a consequence, the nation went through a period of quick industrialization and pushed collectivization, which led to great financial development but also a manufactured starvation in the year 1932-- 1933 and the growth of the Gulag labor camp system.

Raising children is never an easy task; as many parents will tell you, it is a lifetime commitment and one that can sometimes be thankless. Now, raising a neuro-divergent child makes parenting several times more challenging.

Raising a child with an ODD and ADHD combination is infinitely more challenging than usual and requires greater tact and patience. Children with ODD and ADHD often show developmental problems, defiance of authority, disregard for what is considered normal, and, if not checked, can develop problems in their social life.

The last generation of Americans with a living memory of Jim Crow will soon disappear. They leave behind a collective memory of segregation shaped increasingly by its horrors and heroic defeat but not a nuanced understanding of everyday life in Jim Crow America. In The South, Adolph L. Reed Jr.—New Orleanian, political scientist, and according to Cornel West, "the greatest democratic theorist of his generation"—takes up the urgent task of recounting the granular realities of life in the last decades of the Jim Crow South.

Reed illuminates the multifaceted structures of the segregationist order. Through his personal history and political acumen, we see America's apartheid system from the ground up, not just its legal framework or systems of power, but the way these systems structured the day-to-day interactions, lives, and ambitions of ordinary working people.

The South is more than a memoir or a history. Filled with analysis and fascinating firsthand accounts of the operation of the system that codified and enshrined racial inequality, this book is required reading for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of America's second peculiar institution the future created in its wake.
