Synopsis

Hull Construction explores the fascinating evolution of shipbuilding, detailing how material science and engineering innovations have shaped the vessels that traverse our oceans. From the early days of timber construction to the modern era of steel and composite materials, the book highlights the critical role of hull design in ensuring maritime safety and operational efficiency. A key insight is how the shift from riveting to welding revolutionized ship fabrication, significantly impacting both the size and structural integrity of ships. This book uniquely blends mechanical engineering principles with maritime history, offering a comparative analysis of construction methods across different eras.

Hull Construction begins with the fundamentals of hull design and early timber-based methods, progressing through the age of iron and steel, and culminating in modern techniques like advanced composites and modular construction. By examining historical records, engineering reports, and case studies, the book presents a comprehensive overview of how past decisions continue to influence modern shipbuilding practices, particularly regarding structural integrity and the adoption of industry standards.

The book emphasizes the dynamic interplay between technological advancements, economic factors, and regulatory landscapes in shaping hull construction. It demonstrates that the ongoing quest for improved performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness drives innovation in the maritime industry. The narrative unfolds across chapters, building from basic principles to complex applications, providing valuable insights for naval architects, marine engineers, maritime historians, and students alike.

What separates a programmed machine from a conscious mind? Can artificial intelligence ever truly replicate the instinct, awareness, and depth of human thought?
In Artificial Intelligence Versus Living Mind Intelligence, V. Nova offers a bold and original critique of modern technological thinking. Blending philosophy, cognitive science, and decades of independent research, this groundbreaking work argues that artificial systems can process information, but they cannot perceive, intuit, or create like a living mind.
Nova challenges readers to rethink what intelligence really means and reveals how modern reliance on digital abstraction has disconnected us from our innate, creative capacities. Through a unique framework grounded in natural perception and timeless logic, the author explores the fundamental differences between mechanical simulation and true cognition.
Inside, you will discover:Why AI cannot replicate self-initiated, living intelligenceHow perception-not reflection-shapes our understanding of realityThe lost role of philosophy in shaping modern consciousnessA deep exploration of instinct, awareness, and the nature of thoughtA compelling argument for reclaiming the language of the living mind
If you're questioning the future of artificial intelligence, or searching for deeper insight into your own mind, this book offers a powerful, thought-provoking journey back to what makes us truly human.

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. Wallace D Wattles was an American author, born in 1911.

He was probably most famous for his book "The Science of Getting Rich", although he wrote several other books describing the Science of Being Well, and the Science of Being Great.

He was a man very knowledgeable about the world and the natural laws that exist, and this short book is a collection of his writings on what he termed scientific principles, or natural laws.

He first addresses the topic of Time, in "The Eternal Now", and how it is most important to think in the "now" rather than the future, or past.

He then goes on to "speak" about two natural laws of the universe, which are related - The Law of Attraction, and The Law of Cause and Effect. These are about how we attract in life what we habitually think about, and how for every effect, there is a cause.

Lastly, he goes on to discuss Quantum Physics, and how our world is put together.

The four parts end with a summary created by myself, Peter Burgess, who compiled these four topics, in which I provide a short overview of each, together with my own interpretation of an aspect of quantum physics.

These are quite technical topics and should ideally be listened to with the ebook open, in order to follow, and read the text. They may need listening to, a few times, to fully understand what he is saying, but these books contain some really useful information about how our world works, and how best to achieve what it is that you desire in life.

    Definitely worth a listen.

BIRDS. 11,000 species, the most widespread of all animals: on icebergs, in the Sahara or under the sea, at home in our gardens or flying for over a year at a time. Earthbound, we can only look and listen, enjoying their lightness, freedom and richness of plumage and song.
David Attenborough has been watching and learning all his life. His classic book, now fully updated with the latest discoveries in ornithology, is a brilliant introduction to bird behaviours around the world: what they do and why they do it. He looks at each step in birds' lives and the problems they have to solve: learning to fly; finding food; communicating; mating and caring for nests, eggs and young; migrating; facing dangers and surviving harsh conditions.
Sir David has no equal in helping others to learn and making it exciting. His curiosity and enjoyment are infectious. He shows the lifelong pleasure that birds around us offer, and how much we miss if unaware of them.
Attenborough, the Sunday Times bestselling author, delves into the science of birdwatching, offering readers a comprehensive guide to understanding the natural world. His passion for zoology and ecology is palpable, making this non-fiction book a captivating read for anyone interested in nature and its history.

From breaking the law to breaking a promise, how do people lie and how can they be caught?

In this revised edition, Paul Ekman, a renowned expert in emotions research and nonverbal communication, adds a new chapter to present his latest research on his groundbreaking inquiry into lying and the methods for uncovering lies. Ekman has figured out the most important behavioral clues to deceit; he has developed a one-hour self-instructional program that trains people to observe and understand "micro expressions"; and he has done research that identifies the facial expressions that show whether someone is likely to become violent—a self-instructional program to train recognition of these dangerous signals has also been developed.

Telling Lies describes how lies vary in form and how they can differ from other types of misinformation that can reveal untruths. It discusses how a person's body language, voice, and facial expressions can give away a lie but still fool professional lie hunters—even judges, police officers, drug enforcement agents, and Secret Service agents.
