The book examines Great Zimbabwe's political ideology, economic engine, and cultural expressions, providing a multifaceted understanding of this civilization. It draws upon archaeological excavations, oral histories, and historical documents to offer a nuanced perspective. The narrative progresses from introducing the geographical setting and history of research to exploring specific aspects of the city's life, such as its economy, political system, and artistic traditions. Oliver Cromwell is one of the most important men in England’s history, but everything he struggled for collapsed within two decades of his death. The army, Parliament and the citizens of London grappled with each other for control of the country, and even the army no longer remained a united political force. Civil war almost broke out again as a force under Lambert failed to prevent General Monck, the military governor of Scotland, from marching south and dissolving the Rump Parliament. Excluded MPs were restored on condition that they themselves dissolve Parliament, and following fresh elections without military intervention, a new Parliament met on April 25, 1660. Dominated by Presbyterians and Royalists, it accepted a settlement offered by the man titling himself Charles II, the son and heir of Charles I. On May 25, 1660, Charles II returned to England, and less than two years after Cromwell’s death, his work was undone by the Restoration. King Charles II heaped ignominy upon defeat by having Cromwell’s body dug up and posthumously executed. Cromwell’s body was then decapitated, as was Ireton’s, and their heads were placed on a pike above Westminster Hall, where Charles I had been tried, for several years.
Despite the Restoration, however, and despite the fact England’s republican experiment barely outlasted Cromwell, the Commonwealth and Restoration were hugely important in asserting the power of Parliament, and it permanently shifted England’s political balance firmly towards a constitutional monarchy limited by Parliament. The Stuart monarchy was restored on condition of compromise with Parliament and the army, and a precedent had been set for Parliament to replace the monarch, a precedent it would follow in the 1680s when James II was replaced by William and Mary in a settlement that set even more limits around the monarch.

In a world that is constantly evolving, where change seems to be the only constant, the concept of consistency emerges as a vital cornerstone for personal growth, professional success, and enduring relationships. Consistency is not simply about adhering to routines or following habits; it represents a deliberate commitment to living with integrity, purpose, and unwavering resolve. This chapter examines the true meaning of consistency and explains how maintaining a steady approach can fundamentally transform every area of our lives.
At its essence, consistency is the alignment of our actions, words, and beliefs over time. It is the practice of showing up each day, regardless of the challenges we face, and performing in a manner that is true to our deepest convictions. Such steady adherence creates a solid foundation of trust and reliability, qualities that are indispensable both in personal interactions and in the professional sphere. Those who master consistency often find that their lives become more predictable, their relationships stronger, and their sense of self more grounded.
Yet, the path to consistency is rarely without obstacles. Life is filled with distractions, setbacks, and unforeseen changes that can disrupt even the best-laid plans. Embracing consistency means accepting that challenges are an inherent part of any journey. It is about learning to see setbacks not as failures, but as opportunities to learn and grow. By focusing on incremental progress and taking deliberate, small steps each day, we develop the resilience needed to persevere and achieve long-term success.

This book examines the ideological affinity that can be established between the classical 'Bildungsroman' and colonialist ideology on the basis of a literary analysis of 'Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre'—considered by most critics to be the origin of the genre—and 'Great Expectations'—one of the paradigmatic examples of the development of the Bildungsroman in English literature. This ideological affinity is understood as an example of what the Palestinian critic Edward Said has called a 'structure of attitude and reference': the convergence of different cultural manifestations that, although formally independent, contribute to a common purpose. The monograph also undertakes a study of the main characteristics of the classical 'Bildungsroman' from a formal and thematic point of view, and an analysis of the relationship between genre theories and Eurocentric discourses.

Mobilised by the rousing words and protests of Greta Thunberg, young people all over the globe are calling for more action to combat climate change and better protect their futures. Yet they cannot do this alone. They are reliant on people in positions of power to set the necessary changes in motion - and these people include their own school leaders operating within their own local communities. This book is a rallying cry for all schools to unleash their potential to deliver a brighter future for both their pupils and society at large.David Dixon draws on both his doctoral research and his 20 years' experience as a head teacher to set out how school leaders can embed eco-friendly practices in the day-to-day running of their schools that will also contribute to overall school improvement, including that recognised by inspectors.David weaves his guidance around the 'five Cs of sustainability' - captaincy, curriculum, campus, community and connections - to position sustainability as a natural vehicle for developing a type of fully integrated learning ecology and culture for the benefit of all.The book provides a detailed analysis of where we are now in terms of environmental impact, and lays out a road map to help schools move towards more effective eco-friendly provision. It shares practical examples of sustainability in schools and how these contribute to school improvement in the wider, more conventional sense too. Furthermore, each chapter concludes with a series of suggested strategies to encourage further thought and discussions among school stakeholders.Suitable for school leaders, teachers and teacher trainers - in both primary and secondary settings - and for any professionals who work in schools on environmental education or improvement projects.
