  The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) protests were a defining moment in the intersection of environmental advocacy and Indigenous rights. Proposed to transport crude oil from the Bakken oil fields in North Dakota to Illinois, the pipeline’s route crossed sacred lands and the Missouri River, threatening water supplies and cultural heritage.   At its core, the DAPL protests highlighted long-standing issues of environmental justice and the marginalization of Indigenous peoples in America. For centuries, Native American communities have faced the erosion of their sovereignty and disregard for their land rights. The pipeline’s route through unceded treaty lands underscored systemic failures to honor agreements and protect sacred sites. Moreover, it served as a stark reminder of the broader environmental challenges tied to fossil fuel dependence and its impact on climate change.  
    
  The Standing Rock protests grew into a powerful grassroots campaign that united activists, environmentalists, and Indigenous groups from around the world. The movement’s significance lay not only in its immediate objectives—stopping the pipeline—but also in its ability to bring visibility to Indigenous struggles and inspire global solidarity. Social media played an instrumental role in amplifying the protests, creating a platform for underrepresented voices and rallying international support.

  What happens when an entire community is moved?  
   
  Dakota Crescent was one of Singapore's oldest public housing estates and a rental flat neighbourhood for low-income households. In 2016, its residents—many of whom are elderly—were relocated to Cassia Crescent to make way for redevelopment. To help them resettle, a group of volunteers came together and formed the Cassia Resettlement Team. 
   
  They Told Us to Move tells the story of the relocation through interviews with the residents from the Dakota community and reflections by the volunteers. Accompanying these are essays by various academics on urban planning; gender and family; ageing, poverty, and social services; civil society and citizenship; and architectural heritage and place-making. Through this three-part conversation, the book explores human stories of devotion, expectation, and remembrance. It asks what we can achieve through voluntary action and how we can balance self-reliance and public services.

  The Germans produced cutting edge aerial technology during World War I, along with revolutionary dogfighting tactics and some of history’s first flying aces, including the most famous, the Red Baron. But ultimately, economic shortages and lack of manpower hampered the Germans in the air, even when their men and machinery proved superior at critical periods of the war. The story would not turn out the same a generation later. The Third Reich's Luftwaffe began World War II with significant advantages over other European air forces, playing a critical role in the German war machine's swift, powerful advance. By war's end, however, the Luftwaffe had been decimated by combat losses and crippled by poor decisions at the highest levels of military decision-making, and it proved unable to challenge Allied air superiority despite a last-minute upsurge in German aircraft production. 
  Given its unique strengths and distinctive weaknesses by the personal quirks of the men who developed it, the Luftwaffe initially overwhelmed the more conservative, outdated military aviation of other countries. Its leaders embraced such concepts as the dive-bomber, which proved both utterly devastating and extremely useful for supporting the sweeping, powerful movements of Blitzkrieg, while other martial establishments rejected dive-bombers as impractical or even impossible. 
  The Luftwaffe's eventual loss of aerial domination exposed the Germans to precisely the same misfortunes on the ground as they had once relentlessly inflicted on the Poles and Russians. During its heyday, however, the Luftwaffe amply proved the leading role played by air power in the modern combined arms formula. It also produced a remarkable number of aces, whose exploits overshadowed the finest pilots of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, or the United States.
