Beschreibung

"The Psychology of Love: How to Build Healthy and Fulfilling Relationships" is a book that focuses on the importance of healthy and positive relationships in people's lives and the dynamics that govern them.
The author begins by analyzing different theories that have attempted to explain love, from attachment theory to rational choice theory. She explains how each theory has its own perspective and that there is no definitive explanation of love, but rather different angles that can help understand it.
The book then focuses on building healthy and fulfilling relationships, starting with the importance of communication and empathy. The author explains how it is crucial to be able to listen to and understand others, as well as express one's needs and desires clearly and non-aggressively.
Another central theme of the book is conflict management. The author provides tools and suggestions for constructively addressing differences and tensions, avoiding destructive arguments. She also explains how it is important to learn how to apologize and forgive in order to overcome difficulties and strengthen the relationship.
Furthermore, the book addresses the topics of sexuality and passion, explaining how it is essential to keep them alive and how challenges in this area can be overcome.
Finally, the author devotes a chapter to the importance of having realistic expectations in a relationship and learning to manage disappointments. She explains how it is possible to confront difficulties and sometimes, it may be necessary to end a relationship that no longer works.
In summary, "The Psychology of Love" is a book that provides tools and suggestions for building healthy, fulfilling, and lasting relationships. It is an invitation to learn to understand and manage emotions, communicate effectively, and develop the capacity to forgive and be empathetic. It is a book that helps understand love in all its facets and live happier and more satisfying relationships.

Book 2 of 3: Hardy has a hot lead that could finally provide him with answers to his questions. Together with Madeline, Frank, Dimitrij and Esra, he takes the dangerous journey and finds new allies in Harry and his community. But Hardy's fight against the creature has left traces that are becoming more and more obvious and seem inexplicable. After a brutal attack on Madeline, the community is surprisingly attacked by undead. With an old locomotive, they cross the vast steppes of Russia and repeatedly get into dicey situations. Shortly before Moscow, a ruthless and well-organized group appears in an attack helicopter, who only want one thing - Hardy. Using Madeline and Frank as leverage, Hardy complies with every request from Castor, a sick psychopath. Hardy meets would-be philanthropist Lydia, who resides in a well-protected mansion and apparently knows more about him than he does. Over dinner, the situation between the parties escalates and Hardy finds himself in a seemingly hopeless situation. Meanwhile, a horde of undead makes its way to the supposedly safe estate. The chaos is pre-programmed. Denny N. Dwight's cliché-laden declaration of love to the horror and action films of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s enters its second round. Again, he makes use of numerous quotes and allusions from films of these eras. In addition, the author brings up many topics that have been making the rounds among conspiracy theorists for years.

How should we "fix" digital technologies to support democracy instead of undermining it? In Designing for Democracy, Jennifer Forestal argues that accurately evaluating the democratic potential of digital spaces means studying how the built environment—a primary component of our "modern public square"—structures our activity, shapes our attitudes, and supports the kinds of relationships and behaviors democracy requires.

While many scholars and practitioners are attentive to the role of design in shaping behavior, they have yet to fully engage with the question of what structures are required to support democratic communities—and how to build them. Forestal closes this gap by providing a new theory of democratic space. Drawing from a wide range of disciplines, she argues that "democratic spaces" must be designed with three environmental characteristics—boundaries, durability, and flexibility—that, taken together, afford users the ability to engage in fundamental civic practices.

Through extended analyses of Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit, Forestal shows precisely how well these digital platforms meet the criteria for democratic spaces, or whether they do so at all. The result is a nuanced analysis of the democratic communities that form—or fail to emerge—in these spaces, as well as more concrete suggestions for how to improve them.

A compelling call to rediscover the transformative power of art in an age of distraction, coercion, and spectacle – featuring an introduction from Pulitzer Prize–winning author Donna Tartt In Reclaiming Art in the Age of Artifice, J. F. Martel offers a compelling and incisive meditation on the nature of art in a world dominated by invasive media, rampant consumer culture, and artificial intelligence. Drawing on a wide range of examples, from Paleolithic cave art to contemporary cinema, Martel argues that true art reveals the unseen forces shaping our existence—forces that transcend politics, technology, and even culture. In contrast to artifice, which seeks to manipulate or distract, authentic art calls us back to the essence of things, opening “rifts” onto the sublime and the weird and reconnecting us with the radical mystery at the heart of the world.    Featuring an introduction by Pulitzer Prize–winning author Donna Tartt, this edition also includes a new afterword by the author, reflecting on the continued relevance of art in our increasingly mediated world.

A prize-winning Belgian poet explores the nature of creative endeavor—the godlike ambition, the crushing defeat of failure—through the stories of thirteen tragic architects.

In thirteen fascinating chapters, Charlotte Van den Broeck goes in search of buildings that were fatal to their architects—architects who either killed themselves or are rumored to have done so. They range across time and space from a church with a twisted spire in seventeenth-century France to a theater that collapsed mid-performance in 1920s Washington, DC, and an eerily sinking swimming pool in the author's hometown. Drawing on a vast range of material, from Hegel and Darwin to art history, stories from her own life, and popular culture, Van den Broeck brings patterns into focus as she asks, What is that strange, life-or-death connection between a creation and its creator?

Threaded through each story is the author's meditation on the question of suicide—what Albert Camus called the "one truly serious philosophical problem"—in relation to creativity and public disgrace. The result is a profoundly idiosyncratic book, breaking ground in literary nonfiction, as well as providing solace and consolation to anyone who has ever attempted a creative act.
