Synopsis

In "The Life of King Henry V," Alfred John Church presents a compelling narrative that captures the complexities of one of England's most celebrated monarchs. Church employs a vivid literary style, marked by rich detail and a keen sense of historical context, to weave together the king'Äôs military achievements and personal struggles. The work stands as a synthesis of primary historical sources and Church'Äôs own narrative flair, reflecting the broader Victorian fascination with national identity and heroic leadership in the wake of the Napoleonic Wars. This biography not only delineates Henry V's decisive battles but also delves into his character, illuminating his dual role as both a warrior and a ruler, thus enriching the reader's understanding of his legacy. Alfred John Church, a notable classical scholar and historian of the 19th century, was deeply influenced by his scholarly background in Latin and Greek literature, which provided him with a robust framework for analyzing historical figures like Henry V. Church's work often reflects his commitment to making history accessible to a general audience while maintaining scholarly rigor, which led him to craft this engaging biography. His education and expertise in ancient history likely inspired his interest in weaving the threads of King Henry V's life into a cohesive narrative. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in English history, military strategy, or the art of biography. Church's insightful exploration of Henry V's reign not only enriches our understanding of the historical figure himself but also invites reflection on broader themes of leadership and national identity. Readers will find themselves captivated by the blend of narrative brilliance and historical depth that this work embodies.

“This little book is a jewel of intelligence, finesse and culture, which takes a technical object without complaint and turns it over and over as Heidegger taught us to do with Van Gogh's shoes. What is striking is the ambition of a meditation on the maps of contemporary modernity, on the famous Greater Paris, on the subject, on the plural, without the evasiveness of the postmodern, of the absurd quotation. Luis de Miranda goes for a walk, he tells you that he goes for a walk, but he leads you with great mastery and knows where he wants to go. There is nothing gratuitous about this encounter of the kebab shop on the dissection table of the City of Neon. It is rather a new Cartesian meditation after Descartes and Husserl: where the stove and its heat have given way to the whirling sound of gas in a tube. I am, I create, therefore I hear. “Born from an unexpected encounter with a neon sign on the Quai du Louvre, this book was composed based on a seminar given by the author in the winter of 2012. An inspired journey through the night, deciphering the halos of the past and the reflections of the present to give voice to a certain magic of the future.

The Great Jazz Age Novel_______The 1925 Original Version, with Classroom History_______The Great Gatsby is considered F. Scott Fitzgerald's magnum opus, exploring themes of decadence, idealism, social stigmas, patriarchal norms, and the deleterious effects of unencumbered wealth in capitalistic society, set against the backdrop of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. At its heart, it's a cautionary tale, a revealing look into the darker side to the American Dream."When I came back from the East last autumn I felt that I wanted the world to be in uniform and at a sort of moral attention forever; I wanted no more riotous excursions with privileged glimpses into the human heart. Only Gatsby, the man who gives his name to this book, was exempt from my reaction—Gatsby who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scorn. If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him, some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life, as if he were related to one of those intricate machines that register earthquakes ten thousand miles away. This responsiveness had nothing to do with that flabby impressionability which is dignified under the name of the "creative temperament"—it was an extraordinary gift for hope, a romantic readiness such as I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely I shall ever find again. No—Gatsby turned out all right at the end; it is what preyed on Gatsby, what foul dust floated in the wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men..."

The Sentimental Bloke tells the story of Bill, a member of a larrikin push (or gang) in Melbourne's Little Lonsdale red-light district, who encounters Doreen, a young woman "of some social aspiration", in a local market. Narrated by Bill, the poems chronicle their courtship and marriage, detailing his transformation from a violence-prone gang member to a contented husband and father. Read by John Derum, these "songs" show us the great romance of the Bloke and his girl Doreen, full of Australian slang about such hi-fallutin' things.

This is the audiobook of Part 1 of my memoir, My Amazing 35 Year Journey Abroad which I am reading to you myself. Voila! I open the book at a time in my life when I was living in an unheated garage in the dead of winter in Chicago and that came about because of my alcoholism. The year was 1981 and I was 28 years old. By this time in my life I had been kicked out of college, fired from 2 jobs including being fired by my father for crashing my company car drunk, divorced once with another one on the way, and I was broke and jobless. I would then pick myself up and brush myself off and get hired as a stockbroker by Dean Witter Reynolds. I would then blow that great opportunity by, you guessed it, abusing alcohol, and after working for 3 different brokerage houses, I would then quit drinking, start my modeling career, take an inadvertent 1 week ski trip to Austria, and then decide not to get on that return flight to Chicago, but instead would take a train from innsbruck to Nice, France where I would work as a model and actor, and then after a few months in Nice, I would move to Paris where I would live for 6 or so months, and then because of a suggestion from a photographer during a job there, I would end up flying to Singapore where I would work as a model and actor there, then after about 6 months there, I would end up moving to NYC to study acting and work as an actor there, and during my day job, I worked as a skate guard at Rockefeller Center where I would work with LIberace during his show there celebrating the skating rinks 50th birthday and there are photos in the book to prove it. Then from NYC I would move to Hong Kong where I would work as a featured actor in 4 movies, including a role in Kickboxer. I would then move to Bangkok, Thailand where I would start my nudie photography career and become the most prolifice photographer of naked Asian girls in the world. It is now 2024 and I am still in Thailand, retired here at the age of 70.

This is an amazing true story of a female civilian employee of the Army Corps of Engineers in Basrah and Nasiriyah, Iraq. She was riding in a truck with other men when a roadside bomb destroyed the vehicle. Her body was so severely damaged that there was no possible way she could live. She vividly recounts her Near Death Experience when she went out of the body to the spirit world. There it was decided that her work on Earth was not done and with the help of spirit guides, they repaired the body so she could reenter it. She retained the conscious memory of what happened and during the time in the hospital, more details returned. This is the amazing story of a survival in wartime conditions. This has happened to many others in Iraq, but how many remember the spirit side of the experience?
Before this experience, Sudman was dubious about anything that smacked of the paranormal. This experience made her a believer. She shares her story here for the first time to demonstrate that the paranormal is normal and to assist others who have had similar experiences.
This is a book for anyone interested in near death experiences and out of body experiences. It is one of the first such book to come out of the Iraq conflict
